Full description
The story of Anne Frank is known around the world because of her diary describing the period that she, her family, and 4 others spent in a secret annex hidden from Amsterdam’s German occupiers. On this 2-hour private tour you’ll learn how the diary was handed by Miep Gies to Otto Frank after the war. She had saved a number of the family’s personal belongings after the Germans raided the house. Otto Frank was reluctant to publish the diary, but when he read in the diary that it was his daughter’s wish to have it published, he allowed the book to become public in June 1947. Your guide will show you the places where Anne Frank spent her happy childhood in Amsterdam and will provide commentary on the facts and fiction about her. The tour takes place in the south of Amsterdam, where you’ll have the opportunity to become acquainted with an area of the city that you would otherwise likely not see.

I really liked our tour guide Saskia. She gave us another tour because the one we signed up for was misleading. We thought we were getting a tour of Anna Frank House and that neighbourhood (this is should be much more clear on the website). Our guide adapted very well to what we wanted and she was very helpful in getting us tickets for the Anne Frank House.

June 2016 - Linda Verbeek was our tour guide. She did an wonderful job of bringing Anne Frank's experiences to life for us. Her descriptions of Anne's personality, family life, and life during the War were vivid. We had tickets for the Anne Frank House a couple hours before the neighborhood tour and didn't realize that Anne's neighborhood was so far from the House she hid in. The distance is not walkable. But, we figures out the tram system and got to Anne's neighborhood in plenty of time. The tour description should emphasize the distance between the House and Anne's neighborhood. We had a private tour for 4 adults. After the tour, Linda treated us to coffee/beer so we could continue the conversation and ask questions. Excellent tour--highly recommend this tour.

If you're interested in wartime Holland and/or Anne Frank, make sure you book this. This walking tour in a quiet residential neighbourhood takes in the area in which Anne Frank lived, played and went to school. Our guide, Willem was clearly passionate about his subject, explaining more about Anne's childhood and the Dutch background to the Second World War. Full of fascinating stories and very knowledgeable regarding social and political history, and was happy to give us extra time. Really worthwhile to go "behind the scenes."
