With pride in their heritage, they will ignite your imagination with their narratives, while eagerly anticipating the tales you bring to share. In our museum park you will find about 100 museum buildings, farms and windmills. You can view them from the outside and the inside! In this way, history comes closer and you can relive the past. You will find various gardens around and between the buildings in the Open Air Museum. You will come across old crops, forgotten vegetables, medicinal plants. Too many to mention. These gardens, and the museum buildings, are located in a vast, green museum park. During a visit to the museum you should actually take a ride on a historic tram. Between 1995 and 1996, a track for the tram was laid throughout the museum. Since 2017, the Netherlands Open Air Museum has been offering an indoor museum with an exhibition about the Canon of the Netherlands. Spectacular 'film sets' that overlap each other tell stories from the Canon over 10 consecutive periods. You come face to face with historical characters from every era. You get to know them and their world through games, animations and films. And of course through their objects as the surviving evidence for their stories. The origins of the Netherlands, the population, the climate and the geography are discussed in the cinema. And in the last room you can query the complete Canon on an 18 meter wide touch screen.
