Full description
After your morning pick-up from your centrally located hotel, the bus will drive to Corinth via Iera Odos (the Sacred Way). It was so-called this because it was the route taken by a procession celebrating the Eleusinian Mysteries. Initiations were held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone based in Eleusis. Your first stop will be the Monastery of Daphni, a 11th-century Byzantine monastery listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Monasteries Hosios Loukas and Nea Moni of Chios. The interior of the church is decorated with superb mosaics, a unique, fine example of the classical idealism of Middle Byzantine art. The crowded scenes of the mosaics narrate scenes from the life of Christ and the Virgin.  Driving along the coastal road, reach Corinth Canal, which merges the Aegean with the Ionian Sea (short stop for photos of the breathtaking view). Shortly thereafter, reach the ancient town of Corinth, where St. Paul lived and preached for two years (Acts 18:1-18). Visit the ruins of the ancient city where Paul worked with Aquila and Priscilla, see the remains of the first century shops, the agora where Paul’s trial by Gallio took place, the Fountain of Peirene and one of the most outstanding monuments of the pre–Roman period, the Temple of Apollo.

Overall, a good experience! The drive out of Athens meant we saw interesting parts of the city we would otherwise have missed on our break. Daphne Monastery - beautiful building, good background information on history, mosaics/iconography from the guide. Corinth Canal - great opportunity to view from bridge. Stopped here for refreshments but felt this time would have been better spent in Corinth which was a bit rushed. Ancient Corinth - our main reason for taking the tour. As Christians we were very keen to visit the place where the apostle Paul spent time and the community to whom he wrote. This was the most disappointing aspect of the day for us. The emphasis was very much on Greek Mythology with just a cursory mention of the Christian history. We had our bibles and enough knowledge to make this a meaningful and special visit under our own steam. The tour enabled us to get to Corinth on a budget - private tours were extortionate. Good value, trouble free way to meet our needs!

We chose this tour after trying Get your guide services last year on another trip. Once again an impeccable shuttle service, huge bus equipped with air conditioning and wifi. Truly competent guide, very good and understandable English, very clear information and timetables. Bravo Stavros. The bus picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off at the hotel at the end of the tour. Good organization, the only flaw, the fact that the tour in the archaeological area should not be done in the hottest hours of the day.

Lovely tour

The pickup took a bit long going around various hotels in Athens and Easter traffic made a delay in the whole tour, but it was well worth it! The guide was very knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. We were a bit surprised to hear so little about the apostle Paul or any Biblical references, as this was promoted as a “religious tour”, however hearing about the ancient Greeks was also interesting. Would use this tour company again!
