Avignon: Les Baux-de-Provence Day Trip with Wine Tasting

5. Avignon: Les Baux-de-Provence Day Trip with Wine Tasting

This 5-hour tour takes you on a discovery of Les Baux-de-Provence, a medieval village labeled as "one of the most beautiful villages in France". This immense and superb stone fortress is without doubt one of the must-sees on the Provencal tourist trail. Here you can sample some of the best olive oils and wines in the region. You will have the opportunity to taste olive oil at a mill in the valley of Les Baux-de-Provence, one of the most beautiful landscapes of olive groves in Provence where olive oil, cracked olives, and black olives are entitled to the AOC Label. The unusual feature of this olive oil is that it is made from a blend of several varieties of olives. It is the subtle blend of these varieties, a secret jealously guarded by each producer, that gives the oils a whole palette of different flavors. You will also enjoy wine tasting in an estate at the foot of the Alpilles mountain range. The wines of Les Baux-de-Provence are defined by the unique, multi-faceted character of the soil, naturally protected and dried by the mistral wind. Les Baux-de-Provence wines have been officially recognized since 1995 by a "Registered Designation of Origin" (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée). Nowadays, the wines are unusual in that the grapes are grown using organic or biodynamic methods over 85% of their geographical area.

Guide and Olive Mill excellent, Winery poor, only interested in sales.

We really got on with Jeremy, our guide/driver, who was very informative about the region of Provence, and both the visit to Les-Baux-de-Provence village, and the Castellas Olive Mill were really enjoyable. Our host at the Mill, Remy, was brilliant.... very knowledgable, passionate about the business and enthusiastic in sharing this with us. The whole story of getting from harvested olives to finally blended and bottled oils was explained in depth, with a lot of humour, and the tasting was so interesting as well. Such a contrast to the visit to the Mas de la Dame winery. No explanations of the harvest, the varieties of grape they grow, nor the wine-making process at all. Yes, we got to taste five or six wines, but felt the emphasis was more on selling the product than explaining how it got to the shop. No real experience for us about their work. Overall though, we did enjpy our five hours or so.

Excellent tour!

Excellent guide. Really enjoyed her tour. Learned alot about the area as well as the lavender growing, industry and history in the Luberon region. Well worth the time and money spent doing this tour, would definitely recommend to anyone interested not only in lavender but also the towns and lifestyle living in this area... beautiful country!

Nice tour of Provence but less lavender than expected. we did do photo stops in multiple fields and the Lavender Museum which were nice. However, the field stops were photos for maybe 15min and the bulk of time was a market in St Remy and lunch in Rouisslon. Both nice, but not as much lavender as the tour name implies.

Well organized to the best places

A friendly guide drove the 7 people to the most beautiful places in the minibus zz. He was also happy to respond to special requests.

It was a great way to see the Luberon and all it ahead to offer!! Guide was excellent!
