Full description

Discover some of the notable historical sites of Ayutthaya on a day trip from Bangkok. Visit ancient temples and palaces as well as the Ayothaya Floating Market with an expert guide.

After meeting in Bangkok in the morning, start the 2-hour drive to Ayutthaya. The ancient city of Ayutthaya was founded around 1350 and became the second capital of Siam after Sukhothai.

On this full-day trip, you will explore the ruins of the old city, in the UNESCO-listed Ayutthaya Historical Park. The park is an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries, and statues.

Visit the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, originally built in 1632 by King Prasat Thong. At this spot, you can find a number of impressive buildings built in different architectural styles from Thai, Chinese and European design.

Continue your tour with a visit to the Ayothaya Floating Market and enjoy some free time for lunch at your own expense.

After lunch, you will visit 2 more historical sites, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and Wat Mahathat, to discover the ruins of the great temple sites. You will return to Bangkok in the early evening, where you will be dropped off at a location close to the original meeting point.

We had a really great and informative day, as our group leader told us a lot about the country and the people on the way to the respective locations. He spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable and friendly. We didn't always have enough time at the respective locations for our taste, but we also take a lot of photos and the day has to be manageable somehow. But overall wonderfully organized and another fantastic memory!!!

Thank you first of all to our guide Jenny for her dynamism, her kindness and her sharing of knowledge on this program! After visiting a royal palace with colonial influences, we discovered 2 ancient temples, with magnificent ruins! Then we greedily discovered the floating market which allowed us to leave with a belly full of local dishes! A varied program smoothly carried out!

Our guide was called Tan. He tried very hard and always made sure that nobody was lost. The organization was super and uncomplicated from start to finish, the air-conditioned bus trip with 36 degrees outside temperature was very pleasant. I hadn't read anything good about the floating market in advance. Yes, one should not expect floating boats where the goods are sold. It is much more so that the market is built on the water, but one goes over more wooden planks. We were there on a Sunday and there were mostly locals there, which did not confirm the picture of a tourist market. I don't find a hotel pick-up in Bangkok absolutely necessary, because you are well mobile by taxi, bus, train, tuk tuk and, in comparison, even save money if you look at what else is required for hotel pick-up. In terms of price, I think it's ok if you want to avoid negotiating with other providers.
