Full description

Tour the region of Kanchanaburi in West Thailand and uncover local history on this guided day trip. During this memorable day trip from Bangkok, visit the Death Railway which was put on the map by the 1957 movie, 'Bridge Over the River Kwai.'

Begin at one of the country’s best-loved national parks, Erawan National Park. Connect with pristine nature at the Erawan Waterfall which has seven tiers, turquoise pools and a set of limestone caves at its base.

Continue to the JEATH Museum, dedicated to the Allied Prisoners of War who died building the Burmese railway. This museum is a sad yet important reminder of Thailand’s history. It’s thought that over 100,000 lives were lost during this period.

Finally, visit the historic Bridge over the River Kwai. Have the chance to walk over the bridge, admire the impressive scenery, and take a moment to remember the past, before returning to your accommodations/meeting point at approximately at night.

Nicky was my guide and she was fabulous! The tour size is small and a mix of ages and types of people. It was a really interesting day. I have seen that others didn’t recommend or feel the JEATH museum was helpful - I thought that whilst you could consider that our guide Nicky gave us lots of background information which made it more so. Overall would definitely recommend although a very long day !

It starts at about 8 from Bangkok and after about 1.5 hours there is the first stop at an autogrill. Restarting from the stop with another 1.5 you get to the museum and you have 40 minutes to visit. Immediately afterwards we head towards the railway bridge, a 20-minute visit. Third stop is the natural park, lunch and you enter the park. Time available for the visit is 2 hours. In my opinion too little. You can't get to level 7 unless you run and stop along the path inside the park.

My partner and I had a beautiful day driving with our amazing guide Angie. All the activities chosen gave us a good sense of Thailand’s history and beautiful natural wonders. We first stopped at the war museum and then saw the death railway that was built during WW2 by the prisoners of war. Angie then recommended us some delicious fruits that we bought from the local food stands. We then travelled an hour to the Erawan waterfalls. Angie walked us down to the first waterfall and then we had two hours to swim and explore the national park. Angie then kindly ordered us our lunch so that it was nice and hot by the time we finished. We had a lovely time with a lovely tour guide and would recommend this experience to everyone!
