Go back and time and learn about what life was like in Berlin during the Cold War. Embark an exciting and informative private walking tour that takes you to see important sites of the time and gives you an insider's look at the life of the residents of this once-divided city. See the Friedrichstrasse station, one of the most important border stations during the Cold War. Follow the River Spree to the parliament and government district, whose buildings were situated partly along the border strip. Visit the famous Brandenburg Gate where the border ran and was the symbol of the division of the city. From the Holocaust memorial at the former "death strip", proceed to Potsdamer Platz, where the split is particularly visible. See remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall and the famous Checkpoint Charlie. Learn about how MI6 and the CIA tunneled under the wall into the Soviet Zone, the methods used by the Stasi to control the East German population, and what happened to the leaders of the GDR when the wall fell. Get a fascinating insight into what it was like to live in the eastern block and hear about failed escape attempts. Hear about the changes that German society went through, the plight of former East Germans, and how the Cold War shaped modern-day Berlin.

Really good tour. Our guide started to explain what everyday life in the East consisted of. The walking tour itself was very impressive as we followed the former wall and the stories that came with each landmark. Highly recommended to take this tour. Especially with teenage children. They asked many questions and said that this tour was the highlight of our visit to Berlin.
