5. Berlin: Natural History Museum Entrance Ticket

Come and join a journey of discovery that begins by following the footsteps of Alexander von Humboldt and Charles Darwin and takes you all the way to the modern-day explorers of life on earth. Every day, the approximately 200 scientists working at the Museum für Naturkunde look for answers to the great problems and challenges the future holds, relying on their scientific collections, comprising over 30 million items. Their insights shape the various permanent and special exhibitions and many special events. Some of the best-known exhibits are to be found in the Dinosaur Hall, which shows life as it might have been in the Upper Jurassic period, 150 million years ago. Giraffatitan brancai, the tallest mounted dinosaur skeleton in the world, impressively welcomes all visitors in the center of the exhibition hall. The precious Archaeopteryx lithographica, the Mona Lisa of natural history, is elegantly displayed in a safety showcase at the back of the hall. All of the fossil objects – and the dinosaurs in particular – still yield new secrets to scientists and researchers from all over the world. The museum offers much more than extinct fossils - the East Wing allows visitors to see a genuine scientific research collection that has received many accolades. This collection is home to about a million animals stored in 80 tonnes of alcohol. The Biodiversity Wall fascinates visitors, displaying 3,000 species in one glance. This thought-provoking installation opens up a discussion on biodiversity and its loss – a theme that remains at the heart of the museum’s research efforts. With changing temporary exhibitions and a diversified education program including guided tours, lectures, and workshops, the Museum für Naturkunde is always worth a visit.

Skip-the-Line: Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie

7. Skip-the-Line: Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie

The museum was founded on October 19th, 1962, shortly after the construction of the Berlin Wall, as a protest against the Wall and to provide assistance to the people seeking help. The Berlin Wall Museum was formed with the purpose of fighting against human rights violations as a result of the wall. Gradually the museum increased its exhibition space and contributed to the fall of the Wall. The museum had a vital role in history and the objects on display in the museum provide evidence of this. They are original artifacts from successful escapes such as a hot-air balloon, a mini-submarine, cars and airplanes. People helping East Germans to flee used the museum as a base from which they planned the escapes and organized resistance to the unjust GDR regime. After escaping, the refugees and their helpers donated their various means of conveyance and other objects to the museum.

Me and my boyfriend took the tour on one of our first days/holidays in Berlin. It was a magnificent start to the trip. We were brought by a tour guide named Paul, he was extremely informative and kept the whole trip exciting and interesting. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone, and we will. Even after the tour had finished Paul stayed with the group offering help and advice for travelling and transport in the city, which is otherwise difficult to navigate sometimes. It was an amazing experience and the helpfulness of the guide kept any stresses for first time travellers at an absolute minimum. Thanks again Paul, Up Wexford. Regards, Some very very happy customers

This was an exceptional tour - Dan was a superb guide and, as well as the David Bowie material, he also included other, relevant, parts of Berlin history. I am a fan of author Christopher Isherwood and Dan went out of his way to show us the apartment where Isherwood lived with its plaque - this was very kind of him and much appreciated. The Bowie information was comprehensive and Dan made it come alive. I cannot recommend this tour enough - you won’t be disappointed.

Really fascinating tour in a more intimate small group setting. I had a guide named Eran on a lovely Saturday morning and he was amazing in explaining the history, engaging the audience and adding his personal history/story to the tour. Highly recommend!

The guide Eran was very informative and was very engaging, really enjoyed the tour learned things that I didn’t know. Would recommend

The tour was great with a lot of learning, reflection and History. The guide was very gentle and open to any questions.
