The tour starts with a pick-up from your hotel by an air-conditioned minibus. You will then be taken to the Etyek wine region, only a 30-minute drive from Budapest. During the journey, learn about Hungarian history and the history of winemaking in the country. Discover that Hungary has a long and rich wine tradition with quality wine production going back for centuries. Upon arrival to Etyek village, you will visit an artisan cheese making workshop. You will taste 5-6 differently aged cheeses paired with regional white or red wines. During your tasting, you will learn about different methods of cheese making. After the tasting, you will go on a short tour of the facility to see the traditional tools for cheesemaking as well as visit the cheese aging chamber. After visiting the cheese facility, the tour continues to traditional local wineries in the region. These small, family owned boutique wineries produce about 15 to 20000 bottles of wine each year, mostly sold in selected restaurants and in the cellars only. Taste 4 local wines at each of the wineries and visit the wine cellars. Finish the day with a rustic, 3 course home-cooked meal. Savor classic Hungarian dishes and discuss your wine discoveries as you eat. After the tour, enjoy a drive back to your hotel in Budapest.
