The White Towns of Andalusia: Private Day Trip from Cádiz

3. The White Towns of Andalusia: Private Day Trip from Cádiz

The White Towns of Andalusia are a series of villages in southern Spain located mostly within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. All of the villages are characterized by their whitewashed houses with red or brown tiled roofs. This private 8-hour tour begins with hotel pick-up in Cádiz. It is said that the houses are painted white to ward off the intense summer heat that affects the region. Historically, the darkest houses and those with poor air circulation had to be whitewashed by painters who had survived the bubonic plague. Lime mixed with water produces heat that kills microorganism. As a result, people living in villages whose houses were whitewashed escaped more diseases than those who did not. Although times have changed, the tradition is still alive and houses continued to be whitewashed as needed.

The main attraction of Bolonia Beach is its dune. At over 30 meters high and 200 meters wide, it is set in an inlet within the Estrecho Nature Park, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. We had two guides, one in Cadiz (he took us on a city tour of Cadiz before we went to Gibraltar) and one in Gibraltar. The "handover from us" at the border to Gebaltar worked perfectly. Mustafa, our guide in Gibraltar was sensational. He spoke English, but in a way that even those of us who didn't speak English very well understood everything. And then he gave us the opportunity to get in touch with the monkeys on the Affenberg - that was really awesome.

We had an issue with not being able to get our ticket due to not being able to access our email. The attendants at the port location went above and beyond to help us get the necessary QR code so we could enjoy the tour. KUDOS - to a great staff interaction!

We had an excellent trip with Carmen yesterday, She was helpful and asked company‘s permission to change the itinerary to suit us. Very knowledgeable and great driver, we recommend the tour.

It is a great way to see every thing it is a beautiful place and you can get on and off as many times as you want

I had a fun time learning about the different locations
