Historically used as a parade ground, Jackson Square is now full of musicians, tarot card readers, and street performers. You will walk downriver along the old French Market to the Ursuline Convent. You will then come to one of the many former macaroni factories of the lower French Quarter, proof of the major role that Sicilian immigrants played in the city's history. You will come across the house of Vincente Nunez, a Spaniard, whose carelessness caused a fire that destroyed 80% of the city in 1788. You will then see several of the city's former slave markets and learn about Jean Francois Merieult, an influential and powerful Creole businessman and slave trader. After a stop at Preservation Hall, the city's holy grail of traditional jazz, the tour ends in Jackson Square with a story about the famous Madame de Pontalba, a French baroness and businesswoman with an eye for beautiful architecture.

We had been recommended this tour and it did not disappoint. We had arrived the night before this tour and went to a restaurant called Mambo’s for dinner. New Orleans has a high reputation for amazing food and in one night and one meal, Mambo’s had banished that idea. The food was disgusting and service although pleasant had not even enquired why we hadn’t eaten our food when we asked for the check (I presume they’re used to it). Dr Manbo’s tour banished the idea that food in New Orleans is sub par. Best food tour I have ever been in hands down. Unlike others where you are encouraged to buy goods they want you too, this was not the case here. Keep up the amazing work and allow others to fall in love with New Orleans and its food!!!

Betsey was a great guide. We learned a lot about New Orleans history. She very adroitly handled acknowledgement of slavery and the involuntary labour that contributed to the prosperity of New Orleans, while still capturing its glamourous history. New Orleans is a great biking city and this was a lovely way to see it.

The tour was one of the highlights of our trip! Informative without being too talky, just the right amount of walking, and so much fun. You will leave the tour tipsy and SO full without regretting your purchase even a little bit.

Randy was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed walking through the French Quarter with him. He is a low key person which made it that much more enjoyable and he was willing to tailor the walk to our interests.

Great Guide, well informed about the history of New Orleans through food. Food and drinks were excellent. Go hungry!
