Full description

Discover the history of this mausoleum-turned-museum with skip-the-line, hosted access. Located on the right bank of the Tiber only a short distance from the Vatican City, the Castel Sant'Angelo is an ancient fortress with centuries of history. Explore the museum's seven floors to discover an extensive collection of ancient artifacts and perfectly preserved frescoes from the Renaissance period. Built in 135 AD for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the building has played an important part in Rome’s architectural history. Climb the spiral staircase to reach the Chamber of Ashes where a number of historical figures were incarcerated, before continuing up to visit the Papal Residence. Immerse yourself in the stories of each different room as you admire the art within. Finish your experience with a panoramic view over Rome and the River Tiber from the castle terrace. A great opportunity to take some photos of the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge, also known as the Bridge of Angels.

you need to look for a contact person before going into the castle. They will give you the tickets, in exchange for your voucher. We had an audio guide for which we needed to download an app onto our phones. Everything went very smoothly and the audio tour was very interesting. I would definitely take this tour again!

Unfortunately, queuing is mandatory due to Corona. Maps are available from a guide in front of the entrance. The app is also installed on the smartphone here. Don't forget the earphones with your cell phone. The app is good and informative, but unfortunately a bit awkwardly organized. It is not immediately obvious in which order the respective information must be called up. The castle itself is very interesting and from the top you have a great overview of Rome.

skip the line means you are sure that you can get in at your chosen time. You still have to wait in line after you get your tickets from the Tourstation. To be clear, this is a person not a place . Make sure you get your voucher exchanged from them first before you go in, or you will be send back (like what happened to due to wrong info of the staff from the Castel itself). It was my first time inside the castel after coming many times to Rome and it is sure worth it. Ticket price is normally 13eur, we paid 21eur. I guess this is the price for getting the ticket brought to you at the chosen hour and the certainty of an entree.
