1. From Lisbon: Half-Day Sintra & Cascais Private Tour

Discover Sintra, known for its many 19th-century Romantic architectural monuments, which has resulted in its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Surrounded by the mountains which gave its name to the town, a granite massif 10 km long emerges abruptly between a vast plain to the north and the northern margin of the Tagus River estuary.  Walk through the historical village center, enjoy its natural beauty and visit its most prominent landmarks: the Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, the Regaleira, and Monserrate Palaces. Cross over the mountain to visit the westernmost point of the European mainland and look beyond the Atlantic.  Here, in the so-called "Portuguese Riviera," discover the city of Cascais and its old town center as well as Estoril, popularly recognized for the Casino Estoril, widely regarded as Europe's largest casino. The Castle of the Moors was classified as a National Monument in 1910 and it also forms part of the Sintra Cultural Landscape classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1995. It soars 412 m above sea level and looms high above the surrounding forest.  The 10th-century Moorish castle’s dizzying ramparts stretch across the mountain ridges and past moss-clad boulders the size of small buses. The best walking route here from Sintra-Vila is not along the main road but the quicker, partly off-road route via Rua Marechal Saldanha. The steep trail is around 2 km, but quiet and rewarding.  Once you reach the castle, the views over Sintra’s palace-dotted hill, across to the glittering Atlantic are breathtaking. Along the walkways, you can admire the unique landscape that in the foreground features Sintra town and its town hall, the Palace of Pena and the hills. In the background, admire the extensive plain running northwards and the Atlantic Ocean.

Our guide was Alessandro (Alex). He was no less than excellent. He was friendly, thoughtful, attentive and informative. The vehicle was spacious, clean and comfortable. We are in our late 70's. My husband has heart problems. Alex tailored our tour to ensure we got to see as much as possible within our capabilities. We also got to choose how much time we wished to spend where within the schedule. Had we been in the area for longer we would have booked more tours with Alex. Thank you Alex for a memorable tour.

This tour was a blast!! So much variety made it very entertaining. Gui was our guide, and he was very knowledgeable and fun. He told us amazing stories and made our visit to Quinta de Regaleira unforgettable. We loved the busy day—enjoying the Quinta de Regaleira, then a lovely lunch, then some great spots to look out over the ocean, then off-roading in the Jeep. This was a great way to get an overview of this area, and I totally recommend this tour. Gui was awesome, just saying. . .
