From Civitavecchia: Tarquinia & UNESCO Site Visit with Lunch

1. From Civitavecchia: Tarquinia & UNESCO Site Visit with Lunch

Discover the city of Tarquinia and visit the UNESCO world heritage site of the Etruscan necropolis, containing tombs painted more than 3000 years ago, with the help of your local guide. Learn about the extraordinary artwork in the tombs, which predates the Romans and gives unique insight into the ancient culture and daily lives of the Etruscan people.  Leave the necropolis, and follow your guide to one of the most impressive museums on the Etruscans, located in the spectacular Palazzo Vitelleschi. Continue your discovery of Etruscan life and see items of pottery, arts and crafts which have previously been displayed in New York and Paris.  Finish your time in Tarquinia by relaxing and enjoying an authentic Italian lunch, in a traditional local restaurant. Savor the unique and dazzling flavours of the Lazio region, for the perfect end to your day of discovery. Upgrade the default tour option to also explore the underground city of Etruscopolis and see a massive underground quarry from the 4th-century BC featuring recreations of Etruscan homes and see what life was like in a time before the Romans.

From Rome: Private Countryside Tour

2. From Rome: Private Countryside Tour

Enjoy the comfort and convenience of hotel pickup and private transportation to the gorgeous countryside surrounding Rome. Get off the beaten path and out of the city to experience the region as a whole. Sit back and relax as your English-speaking driver takes you from stop to stop and explore each site at your own pace while your driver waits for you in the car.  Head first to Castello Orsini-Odescalchi Castle, a famous Renaissance castle perched on the shore of Lake Bracciano. Admire the view of one of the largest and best maintained castles in Italy before strolling by the water of the volcanic lake. Then drive to the ancient Medieval hilltop fortress of Ceri and enjoy a gourmet local treat in the historic surroundings. Learn about ancient Etruscan civilization at the Banditaccia Necropolis in Cerverteri. Check out the impressive frescoes decorating the collection of thousands of tombs–many of which are underground. At the end of the day, get driven back to your accommodation in Rome.

Interesting tour and good value for money

This was probably the best value tour we took out of 11 over a recent Med cruise. Our guide (Andrea Gringana ?spelling) was enthusiastic, friendly and informative but not "in your face". Everything was included in the price - travel, coffee, lunch, entrance tickets. We decided that a switch-over day in Civitavecchia was probably not long enough to go to Rome for a sensible period of time so we stayed locally. We'd never heard of Tarquinia past or present but it's well worth a visit. The only thing to note is that the ancient Etruscan necropolis consists of rooms underground, each reached by a steep staircase and therefore this tour is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The size of the port of Civitavecchia and the rules associated with it mean that the guide cannot meet you inside the port gates so you need to take the shuttle bus to the entrance and meet them at the drop-off point immediately outside.

Andrea was knowledgeable, friendly and a local so he knew all the best places to see. Pickup and drop off was easy. I know we would not have seen all the special places that he was able to see on our own. No question - book with Andrea!

Great tour if your looking to get away from the crowds. our driver was prompt, personable, knowledgeable and genuinely proud of her city/country. Time on site was more than adequate. You do have to descend stairs in order to see tombs.

We were lucky to have Andrea as driver and guide. We had plenty of time for necropolis and Tarquinia wonderful museum. Andrea made us discover the rich and beautiful city of Tarquinia. Restaurant was authentic and nice.

The etruscan Cerveteri necropolis is incroyable and there is a good restaurant in Ceri castel.
