Rome: Colosseum, Arena, Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour

3. Rome: Colosseum, Arena, Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour

Guided tour Arena ;first and second floor of Colosseum and vip entrance to’ Roman Forum and Palatin Hill In 72 AD, construction for what would later be known as the world’s greatest amphitheater began during the reign of Emperor Vespasian and was completed by his son and successor, Titus, in 80AD. Further modifications were later made during the reign of Domitian (81-96AD). The inauguration games were held to celebrate the completion of the Flavian Amphitheatre and lasted over a hundred consecutive days of lavish games and all forms of entertainment, the most popular were the gladiator games. On occasions, the emperor would enjoy pulling pranks on the gladiators by using the trap door system to surprise them with a less than ferocious animal, such as a chicken! The arena floor (Arena means sand in Latin) is where all the action took place. It was made of wood and covered with a layer of sand to absorb the blood that was shed by the gladiators, animals and criminals. After centuries of usage, the floor was removed in the 6th century, announcing the end of the gladiator battles. In the 1990s, a section of the arena floor was reconstructed, giving visitors a better idea of what the Colosseum must have looked like.

Sharon was our guide for the Moonlit walk, and we couldn't have been happier with the evening! She was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and super-friendly, making sure to address and include everyone in the group as she educated us about Rome and its history. She answered any questions we had, and you can see she loved being here and that passion came across with no barriers. She had recommendations for other things throughout the city, which we took her up on and was extremely glad we did as may have missed things without her. Take the tour you won't be disappointed, especially if its hot, the evening tour is the only way to walk Rome in this heat!

Is there anyway to leave 6 stars?? Last night I took this tour with Sharon Parker and it was the best way I could have ever finished my first solo trip to Italy! Her energy was extremely welcoming and she was so friendly! It was so cool to hear she’s been here 40 years after falling in love with the city. Very inspiring women I tell you! I’m so glad i wasn’t able to make it on the previous tour I booked and ended up with the best tour guide ever!!

We did a moonlight tour with Sharon Parker. She was terrific! We had a great time with our two kids (11 and 13). It was a good pace, we learned a lot and was a great way to see some of the best sites in Rome! Sharon was really passionate about sharing all her knowledge in a very warm and approachable way! We would recommend!

Sharon did a wonderful job of guiding us around Rome with much historical and social info...well worth it and walking in the evening was invaluable as the days were unbearably hot.

A perfect guide led us through Rome famous places!
