New Orleans: Cemetery Walking Tour

1. New Orleans: Cemetery Walking Tour

Explore a unique collection of 5 culturally and architecturally diverse cemeteries in New Orleans. These cemeteries are located on what was once the northern (lakeside) boundary of the city of New Orleans, which explains the density and variety of cemeteries in this area. It is also where the remains of unidentified bodies from Hurricane Katrina are buried. Meet your guide outside Bon's Street Food where the bus will pick you up to start the tour. Enjoy exclusive access to the Old Fellows Rest Cemetery. From the Odd Fellows Society Cemetery you will make your way to the Masonic Cemetery. Then on to the cemeteries. Learn about the trials and tribulations of the city’s early Irish immigrants in St. Patrick Cemetery as well as the devastating effects of yellow fever in the Charity Hospital Cemetery. Experience stunning architecture while admiring some of the city’s most extravagant tombs in Greenwood & Cypress Grove cemeteries. Conclude your tour with an in-depth overview of the lasting effects of Hurricane Katrina while paying respect to the many lives lost in the Hurricane Katrina Memorial Cemetery.

We were a small group of five, and that was perfect! As a retired funeral director, there isn't an oddball question about the subject that Jeff can't answer. He does that with plenty of humor, so this is not a depressing tour. On the contrary, we found it incredibly informative, and Jeff's knowledge of local history was top notch. I have already recommended this tour to friends!

Great trip, Geoff, our guide, was great in double checking arrangements by text and email before the trip. We arrived early and enjoyed coffee and beignets at Morning Call which set us up for the tour. Take water with you, there is some shade but it’s super hot. Geoff was both a witty and informative guide.

Geoff was very knowledgeable and very eager to share his information and stories with our group. We even got to see inside a cemetery that is off limits to every other tour except ours!

very informative with a pleasant and knowledgeable guide. appreciated being able to do it at 9 am so there was time to do something else in the day

Geoff was a very knowledgeable guide and fun personality. He answered every question asked and was happy to share his knowledge.
