From Cairo: Saqqara and Memphis Pyramids Tour

5. From Cairo: Saqqara and Memphis Pyramids Tour

Before the Great Pyramids of Giza, many Egyptian kings created vast and memorable monuments for their burial in the desert outside present-day Cairo. Visit these sites in historic Saqqara and Memphis, ancient Egyptian sites located around 18 miles south of Cairo on a shared group or private tour. Saqqara is a large and ancient burial ground that features the world's oldest standing step pyramid. Designed by Imhotep for King Djoser, the step pyramid is the oldest complete stone-hewn building complex known in history. It is surrounded by other small pyramids dating back to the 5th and 6th dynasties. Although Giza and the Valley of the Kings in Thebes eventually eclipsed Saqqara as the burial ground of royalty, Saqqara remained an important complex for burials and cult ceremonies for more than 3,000 years. You’ll continue on to Memphis, the ancient capital of Lower Egypt and of the Old Kingdom of Egypt from its foundation until around 2,200 B.C. The modern towns of Dahshur and Saqqara lie within the administrative borders of historical Memphis. Throughout the tour, your local guide will offer local insight into the culture and customs of Cairo and the surrounding area.

Our tour was very nice. Kholud is a very well prepared tour guide and her Spanish is almost perfect. He knows very well the topics he talks about and takes his time to answer your questions. On the other hand I guess we didn't have much contact with our driver Ramy due to the language, but he was very polite and efficient. With the program everything worked perfectly, we saw everything we needed to see. The included restaurant food was delicious, we loved the Buffet they offered. The car was clean and always with the air conditioning on, ready to greet us after each stop. The only "but" we had was the insistence of taking us to see other places like the Papyrus Museum, which is outside the program (we didn't know if it had an additional cost). It was kind of awkward having to decline the offer more than 2 times. Outside of that, the tour operator and their guides are recommended. Thanks for your attention!!

Fantastic and interesting day! Mohsen our guide was very friendly and easy to ask questions about Egyptian life in the present and in the past. He helped capture some amazing photos of us both which was above and beyond what I would ever expect from a guide! Very knowledgeable in his guide and for any questions we asked. Lots of stops but never felt rushed. Mohamed was a brilliant driver, we felt very safe and he tried to keep us as cool as possible in the 40-48°C heat by keeping the car parked in the shade whilst we were in doing our tours. Lunch was lovely and we could choose our time.

The tours were wonderful. Worth every penny….. Ra (guide) and Rami (driver) are wonderful, willing and always available. They perform far beyond their functions. Ra took beautiful pictures, in addition to guiding us with great mastery. I recommend!!!!

A great and often surprising experience, especially the visit to the interior of the Great Pyramid.

The three of us were very happy with the trip. We can only recommend it. Really great
