Full description
Get picked up from your accommodation in Doha and check out the city's most important cultural highlights. Explore Katara Village, a cultural complex built to resemble a traditional Qatari village. Learn about Qatari culture and history in a unique multi-use space named after the historical name used for Qatar prior to the 18th century. Check out a number of Katara's highlights including the open amphitheater, opera house, multipurpose cinema, beach, art gallery, children's cultural center, and theater society. Visit the aptly-named Grand Mosque, a newly-built state mosque opened in 2011. Admire the architectural fusion of traditional Arab style and modern features, including as many as 28 large domes covering the central hall and 65 domes covering the outer quadrangle. Then head to Souq Waqif, the city's largest traditional outdoor market. Peruse the traditional garments, spices, and handicrafts on offer and wander through the traditional falconry market and the gold market. Stop in at some of the dozens of restaurants and shisha lounges that make the market popular with locals and expats alike especially on weekends. Make a stop at Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center and marvel at its characteristic spiral minaret. Learn about the center's social, religious, and educational activities and check out the library onsite. Continue on to the famous Museum of Islamic Art built by the Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei. Choose to enter and view one of the world's most complete collections of Islamic art and artifacts sourced from three continents over 1,400 years. Finally, visit MIA Park, a popular park with locals who come to picnic, walk, and cycle.
