Taste traditional Emirati food, and learn more about life in the United Arab Emirates at a 1.5-hour cultural lunch at the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) in Dubai. Located in a traditional wind tower house in the Al Bastakiya trading village of the Al Fahidi Historic District, the SMCCU was set up to raise awareness and demystify the local culture and customs of the United Arab Emirates. With an objective to improve cross-cultural understanding and communication between locals and guests, you will learn more about local life through award-winning cultural programs. Sample authentic Emirati dishes while chatting with your host about the culture and traditions of the UAE. Sit in the courtyard of the SMCCU on traditional floor cushions, and taste Arabic coffee and dates, along with a variety of local dishes, including dessert. Really great, very interesting! We are installed in a typical room. The person who welcomes us is very nice, we feel that she is happy to share her culture and is ready to answer all your questions. I loved. We were able to eat different dishes mainly based on rice, tea, coffee and dessert. It's so enriching to speak with a local, I recommend without hesitation!

we were alone for lunch, so we had a private meeting with the presenter. She told us about Dubai by the kindest Ruqaya. We got an answer to every question. My 14 and 11 year old sons were delighted. Lunch was quite early so we weren't hungry but got everything to go. We could pack as much as we wanted. Everyone was very nice, we learned a lot on site about customs, history and everyday life in Dubai

Very relaxed and delicious meal with a knowledgeable guide into the culture and answered all questions fully. The meal was very Indian as opposed to the more traditional Arabic which what I would expect from that part of the world. Very interesting conversations about being environmentally friendly yet we were served water in small containers made of plastic. To take food away(which was fabulous to be able to do this!!) we were given foil containers and plastic bags to take food away(which was fabulous!!) maybe everyone could be told to bring their own multiple use containers if they want to be able to take food away. I highly recommend this activity as a first insight into the culture...but it did leave me wanting to know more and with no pointers as to what I can do to have more access to the local people to learn more about their culture.
