Full description

Explore Edinburgh's ghostly past on a guided tour through the streets of the Old Town and its underground vaults. Listen as your cloaked guide tells you tales of the city's dark and grim past as you are led along the Royal Mile.

If you dare, step into the narrow alleyways, which are only a few feet wide. Make your way to the South Bridge, and head underneath, where Edinburgh's Vaults are located. Once storage areas for businesses and shops in the area, the vaults were taken over in the late 1700s and turned into living spaces. Eventually, the area became home to slums and the city's red-light district. As you walk through these now-vacant rooms, you will hear tales of the deplorable living conditions, as well as of the crime that once raged through the vaults. When you emerge from the underground, consider yourself lucky that it isn't in the dead of night.

A fantastic tour that takes you down in to the unseen sites of Edinburgh, a really fun and interesting way of learning some ghostly tales. Starting in open air then heading underground really gives you an impression of just how dark it really is down there. Great for adults and children alike.

It lashed rain and we were very cold because we were soaked through, which took from the fun of being in the chambers themselves. Guide was brilliant tho and did his level best to keep the energy high. Needs a rethink and some changes to the plan when it is deluging down.

The Ghostly Underground Vaults Tour was a great experience and pretty unique. Our guide, Naomi, did a wonderful job and her delivery of Edinburgh's history and ghostly tales was brilliant and helped to make the experience. The vaults themselves are a little uneven under foot in places but we were warned and you can use your own phone torches etc if desired, although the vaults are lit with candlelight. I liked the fact that nothing was particularly fabricated on the tour - it was an authentic experience.
