Full description

Spend a day experiencing the natural beauty of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park from Edinburgh. Enjoy a memorable visit to Stirling Castle, explore the pretty villages of Aberfoyle and Loch Lomond Shores, and set off on a spectacular cruise across Loch Lomond.

Departing Edinburgh, head to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, one of the prettiest and largest lochs in the whole of Scotland. Here you can enjoy an hour-long cruise taking in spectacular views of the loch’s many islands and the surrounding mountains.

Alternatively, take a stroll through the picturesque loch-side conservation village of Loch Lomond Shores, with its quaint houses, cafes, and stunning views across the loch’s western shoreline.

Enter The Trossachs National Park and experience its abundance of lochs, mountains, and forests. Continue on, past medieval Doune Castle, to the pretty town of Aberfoyle, situated on the banks of the River Teith in Stirlingshire, where you stop to enjoy some lunch.

Travel north-west for your last stop of the day at magnificent Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most historically significant castles, sitting high on volcanic rock and offering wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.

Visit the castle and learn of the exploits of key historical figures including William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and Mary Queen of Scots. Travel back to Edinburgh at the end of your tour.

Meeting point

Meet outside the green Ensign Ewart pub. There is currently a shortage of taxi and private hire cabs in Edinburgh, which may make it harder to get to the departure point if you're thinking of using a taxi. It is strongly recommended that you allow for more time to reach the departure point in the morning and look into public transport options as a backup.

We start by going to see the Kelpies, majestic structures of remarkable beauty, we continue by going to visit Loch Lomond, where it is possible to take a cruise. Once finished, we move on to say goodbye to the hairy coos, and then stop for lunch in a small and friendly village, Aberfoyle. The day ends in Stirling, where you can choose whether to visit the castle through a local guide or spend an hour discovering the town. Prepared guide, comfortable bus, tour recommended!

Martin, our guide/driver/story-teller/comedian was the highlight of our trip! He made everything better than expected and was quite interactive with the group - he offer to answer any questions, take pictures and even lend out his phone charger. He’s a fantastic representative for Scottish hospitality. We also loved interacting with Honey & Hamish. Thanks for a great day!!

The driver had a lot of information and stories. The drive was absolutely not boring and the route had a lot of sights between the main destinations. The stop at the Kelpies was quite short but enough for good photos. The boat trip on Loch Lomond was good too. A small drawback, there was only one Scottish whiskey on the boat. Anyone doing the trip should keep in mind that if you don't do the boat tour, there won't be much time to walk around. Stopover in Aberfoyle for lunch short but sufficient for a bite. Stirling Castle absolutely beautiful and lots of time to explore. Absolutely beautiful landscape no matter where he drove.
