Explore the Scottish Highlands on this bus day trip from Edinburgh. Take in classic sights like Stirling, Doune, and Inveraray castle. Admire natural landscapes like Loch Lubnaig, Glen Ogle, and the Arrochar Alps.

Hop aboard the spacious and airconditioned bus in Edinburgh and travel west, passing in the imposing show of Stirling Castle which rests high on its volcanic rock. Visit to Doune Castle which was featured in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Drive into the Highlands, past the lovely Loch Lubnaig, and up through impressive Glen Ogle. Stopping nearby at a place where you can purchase lunch with views of the surrounding natural scenery.

After lunch, drive further into the Highlands, stopping to view one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, Kilchurn Castle. Marvel at this relic which juts into Loch Awe and is stunningly framed by mountain peaks.

Venture to Inveraray, a quaint town built in the mid-18th century, on the shore of Loch Fyne. Have free time to explore the town and pick up some Highland souvenirs, or pay an optional visit to Inveraray Castle (closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays), the historic home of the Duke of Argyll. Begin your homeward journey, driving over the Arrochar Alps, an attractive range of mountains, with a brief pause near the top of the "Rest and Be Thankful Pass. Meeting point

You can find the Edinburgh departure and return point outside the green Ensign Ewart pub. There is currently a shortage of taxis and private hire cabs in Edinburgh, which may make it harder to get to the departure point if you're thinking of using a taxi. It is strongly recommended that you allow for more time to reach the departure point in the morning and look into public transport options as a backup.

I absolutely loved this tour. Our tour guide Stuart was amazing! He was witty and interesting throughout the whole day and he really tries to get to know everyone on the bus. He even played music throughout the day that fit with what he was talking about. I personally think the bus to walking ratio is perfect and the day went by so quickly. Everywhere we stopped was beautiful. I thoroughly recommend taking this tour.

The trip was relaxing and enjoyable with some lovely scenery and a personable driver. Inveraray Castle was closed on the day I went but we stopped in the town for an hour despite there being little else to see. I suggest you substitute Sterling Castle for Inveraray when it’s closed and allow some extra time. You could also make the photo stops a bit shorter.

Stuart was a great tour guide! He was knowledgeable, entertaining, and a great driver. He gave us a good mix of history, jokes, geology, flora and fauna, and Scottish folk music and modern music. He engaged with the participants, gave us a good balance between road and exploration, and made the day very enjoyable!
