Berlin Highlights, History, and Government District

8. Berlin Highlights, History, and Government District

Enjoy a trip through time in the history of Berlin on this two hour tour of the politically-significant Mitte district. In 1993, the federal government of Germany relocated to Berlin, and finding a suitable location there didn't take long. There was plenty of space along the area where the Berlin Wall once stood, and building on both sides of the former border symbolized reunification. It resulted in a completely new district, one which now enthralls people from home and abroad with its spaciousness, transparency, and magnificent riverside paths. This tour of Berlin will amaze you by presenting so much German history in such a small area. Past horrors lie directly next to an optimistic path to the future. This entertaining tour starts at Potsdamer Platz. Up close and personal with lots of archival material, you’ll relive the demise and resurrection of the entire area. See the area surrounding the station before heading on towards the symbols of the vibrant Berlin of the 1920s. Forgotten and pushed to the fringes, Potsdamer Platz experienced an unparalleled resurgence during this time. Learn where the Berlin Wall once stood and see a hidden watchtower from the GDR. Find out why the Holocaust Memorial is located in the former center of power and the Brandenburg Gate is the only remaining gate to the city of the original 16. At the end of the tour, explore the current government buildings with interesting commentary and insider knowledge from your guide. Discover background information about the construction of the buildings, enjoy the vast open spaces, and follow the remains of the Berlin Wall along the former border between East and West Germany.

There were seven of us and it was a perfect experience. On the one hand a perfectly prepared T1 Samba(!) and second (even more important) a very knowledgeable and humorous driver and guide. The accompanying material available was also very informative. All in all a great experience and more than worth the money! Thanks!

We did the tour as a family of 7 adults. It was very informative and fun. However, 2 adults next to the driver are quite cramped. But it was fine for 2 hours. Would recommend for 6 adults only.

Super nice ride! Far exceeded our expectations! The team tries to make everything possible! A huge thank you! I was traveling alone with 3 children, everything worked out great.

Excellent overview which gave us ideas about what to visit during our stay in Berlin.

Inexpensive short tour. Was cold, could use some heating in the buss.
