1. From Honolulu: Makapuu Lighthouse or Koko Head Sunrise Hike
Spend the morning exploring one of two hiking trails on Oahu's windward coast. Hike the more challenging Koko Crater Trail or opt for the less intense Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail. After your climb, head to the Halona Blowhole and Sandy Beach for photo opportunities. Start your day early with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Honolulu. Then, head to your hiking trail of choice to begin your climb. If you're looking for a challenging outdoor adventure, the Koko Crater Railway Trail is the one for you. Also known as the Koko Head Stairs, this route will test your endurance as you climb over 1,000 steps to reach the top. Your hard work will be rewarded with spectacular views of landmarks such as Hanauma Bay and the coastline leading to Diamond Head. For a less intense experience, choose the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail. This paved 2.5-mile hike is more moderate. And if you're visiting between November and May, you may even get lucky and catch a glimpse of migrating humpback whales as you walk. At the end of your trek, hop back into your van and make your way to Halona Blowhole and Sandy Beach for some fantastic photo opportunities before being dropped off back at your accommodation.
