Full description
As this full-day (11-hour) excursion begins, you’ll relax on a bus transfer to Verona and listen to your guide’s comments about the trip highlights and the history of Verona and Sirmione. Take in views of the Veneto countryside and the scenic beauty of Lake Garda and its Mediterranean vegetation of olive trees, cypresses, magnolias, oleanders, and lemon trees. You'll arrive in Verona at about 11:00 and then embark on a guided walking tour of the center. Visit the colorful and lively Piazza delle Erbe that was the site of the Roman Forum. See the house of Juliet with the famous balcony, the Piazza dei Signori, where you’ll find the old City Hall, and the nearby Scaligere Tomb and Piazza Bra, which is the center of modern Verona. From Piazza Bra you’ll see the second-largest amphitheater in Italy (after the Colosseum), built in the first century for Roman performances and gladiator battles. It is now a venue for opera performances. After the guided tour you’ll have some free time on your own. Next you’ll depart on the 30-minute drive to Sirmione, a tiny town on the banks of Lake Garda. In Sirmione you can enjoy an optional boat trip (of around 20 minutes) to the far side of the lake. You’ll have free time to explore the romantic peninsula of Sirmione and take in the town’s narrow streets and its medieval walls and castle. Depart Sirmione at around 16:30, arriving in Jesolo at 19:00.

It had been agreed that our group of 4 would be picked up from our own hotel, a new pick-up location was announced the day before. To get there in the morning at 7.30 we needed a taxi. However, the tour bus drove past our hotel and took guests from two hotels after our hotel. The guide could not explain the matter

Definitely worth doing

Pick up and drop off was very easy so took all the stress out of it. They sent an email the day before with our pick up location and it was another hotel just a 2 minute walk from our hotel. The only downside is you really don’t get a lot of time in each place however the guided tour in Verona covers a lot of history in a short time so is definitely worth it. Sirmione is stunning and the boat trip for an extra €9 per person is also a must.

Both Verona and Sirmione are beautiful places to visit. This was an easy way to explore 2 places that we wouldn't have seen otherwise. Our tour guide Debbie was funny and very knowledgeable. Our guide in Verona was also very good. There is an optional boat ride on Lake Garda for an extra 9 euros per person but we chose not to do this so we could spend more time exploring Sirmione itself. Our only minor criticism is that you don't get much free time in Verona (only around an hour) - but it would be difficult to fit both Verona and Sirmione in otherwise.
