Full description

Embark on a full-day tour of Fatima, Obidos, Batalha, and Nazaré from Lisbon. See the shrine of Fatima, explore the seaside resort of Nazaré, and enjoy liqueur tasting in Obidos.

Benefit from pickup in Lisbon city center, and then take a scenic drive to the shrine of Fatima. Learn more about the important Catholic pilgrimage site before going to the Gothic convent at Batalha. Admire the Manueline style of architecture typical of Portugal in the 16th century, and then enjoy a delicious lunch of regional food.

Next, visit the beautiful seaside resort of Nazaré, popular with surfers and water sports fans. See the statue of the black Virgin Mary by Saint Joseph and look at the colorful fishing boats on the sandy beach from the top of the rock. Try some of the sweet cherry liqueur known as ginja in the medieval village of Obidos, and soak up the fairytale atmosphere of the cobbled paths and small medieval houses.

The trip was excellently organized, it started well, we were picked up from a location nearby the hotel. The guide (I'm sorry I didn't remember his name) proved to be a particularly competent guy, he presented the objectives of the visit in great detail. He showed kindness and flexibility in his relationship with us. The only dissatisfaction is related to the recommended restaurant for lunch. Leaving aside the unjustifiably high prices, the codfish served was poorly prepared (a thick piece, raw on the inside) slightly spoiled. Those from the group who also opted for this dish agreed with us. The effects were obvious the next night through a nasty diareea affecting me and my wife.

Although the tour bus showed up at the pick-up hotel about an hour after the scheduled time, which made us worried and kept us in limbo (we didn't have e-mail access. We'd have recieved the delay notice if we did), the entire tour turned out to be wonderful. The guide was a very very nice guy, friendly and knowledgeable. I was amazed that he continued without a break telling us the stories about the places we were about to visit while driving very fast, and he spoke English and Portugese at the same time. Non Christian visitors might have felt it difficult to see the significance of the sites, if it were not for his fascinating story telling. He was also very flexible amending the time frames according to our requests. We spent two hours at Castelo de Obidos, where we enjoyed 3 to 5 cups per person of Ginja de Obidos.

full day hitting four main out-of-lisbon locations, with what felt like an appropriate amount of time at each stop. Never felt rushed, got to see far more in a single day than i could have arranged for had i made the plans on my own. And with a family of four, the tour (while a little pricey for four adults), felt worth the investment. Tour guide was outstanding - commentary provided in both english and portuguese, for the mixed group of 4 americans and 3 brazilians - and she was very accommodating as well!
