Full description

Escape the bustle of London on a full-day sightseeing tour of the English countryside. You will head to the Garden of England, with visits to Kent’s Leeds Castle, the White Cliffs of Dover, and Canterbury Cathedral. The journey takes you over the Greenwich Meridian and past the London district that is home to the famous Cutty Sark tea clipper, and the Royal Observatory. Then see Leeds Castle, described by Lord Conway as “the loveliest castle in the world.”

Set in the middle of a lake, and surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and gardens, enter the castle before the doors open to the public, and experience its magic in an atmosphere of still tranquility. Have time to explore the castle grounds and find the Lady Baillie Garden, with views over the lake. Next, make your way to Canterbury and visit the historic Canterbury Cathedral. The most important Anglican church in the world, the central Bell Harry Tower dates back to 1498, and the crypt is from the 11th-Century.

Your guide will tell the story of the shocking murder of Archbishop Thomas Beckett in 1170, and there will also be time to explore the narrow streets of Canterbury, with an opportunity to stop for lunch. Continue your tour through the picturesque landscape of Kent, dotted with unusual buildings and quaint villages. Arrive at Dover, to see the famous White Cliffs, standing 400 feet above sea level. Brooding above the cliffs is the sprawling Dover Castle, still watching over the town after 800 years.

The tour was a wonderful experience. Leeds Castle is amazing, its gardens a perfect spot to relax or you could explore the maze but in a short time. In Dover we were only 10min on the waterfront, but Cliffs of Dover in a radiant day were lovely. Much more time in Canterbury, allowed us to visit the cathedral (gorgeous !) and to take an unique ice cream. The guide David, a gentleman with a great sense of humor was very knowledgeable and shared us some really interesting facts about British history. For me the timings seemed a bit tight and surprisingly the tour ended earlier than we expected. I would suggest that to respect the duration of 10 hours to include a stop to Dover castle.

The guide, Sheila, is very lovely, funny and well-informed. The driver, Romain, is calm and attentive. The visit to the castle and to the cathedral were even better than I had expected. We had plenty of time to visit and even wonder around. The only problem for me was the time spent in Dover. It was all in a hurry, a few glimpses from the bus and only 15 on a beach quite far away from the famous white cliffs. And that was it, unfortunately. All in all, it was a good trip, but, to save others from the bitter experience in Dover, the tour provider should mention that the Cliffs are not in fact part of it. Thank you, Sheila, for the tiny jokes and the great amount of info provided.

The visit to Leeds Castle was very complete, the site is beautiful. The visit to Canterbury Cathedral was also very good, but we had very little time to eat, and only 15 minutes to see the rest of the place. As for Dover, we were only there for 20 minutes. It would be better to visit only two places, but with more time in each one.
