Full description
Take a sightseeing tour that shows you London's famous landmarks such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament before a tour of the Tower of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Arriving at the Tower of London built in 1066 by William the Conqueror, your guide will regale you with fascinating insights into the history of this Royal Palace and fortress. Ample time will be given to view the Crown Jewels and the White Tower and to wander around this imposing fortress. The next stop on your full-day tour is The Mall to watch the Changing of the Guard, as one of the Queen’s Foot Guard Regiments marches from St. James’s Palace to Buckingham Palace, dressed in their world famous tunics and busbies. * You’ll take an extended private cruise on the River Thames and have excellent views of St. Paul's Cathedral and Shakespeare's Globe. After free time for lunch, tour St. Paul's Cathedral, the 17th-century masterpiece designed by Christopher Wren. Listen to the sound of the 1695 organ that Mendelssohn once played and visit the tombs of Nelson and Wellington. On Sundays, when there is restricted viewing at the Cathedral, enter and observe one of the services. You’ll finish your tour near South Bank, with the rest of the afternoon to browse and shop at your leisure. *If the Changing of the Guard is not taking place you will still see Buckingham Palace.

The tour was excellent, fun and as described. Our guide and bus driver were very good- pleasant, knowledgeable, and flexible an when appropriate unapologetic for the UK's October weather, (we had a few US tourers apparently unfamiliar with the vagaries of English autumn weather who whined). There were a few logistics hiccups beyond her control 1. access to a bus route- an alternate was found on the fly, 2. the Thames boat tour element - nixed due to a high tidal surge. Our guide rolled with these and made the tour worthwhile. The pace was gentle, and information on sites was excellent and tailored to that day's US audience ( eg. this is the US war memorial chapel - with(in) St. Paul's). The actual logistics of getting on/ off the bus/rejoining the group-were well explained. I recommend this for a slightly older clientele-we are late 50's.

This tour was definitely a great way to get an overview of London in one day. We took it on our first full day in London, which helped us identify what areas we wanted to go back and explore further. Frank was very knowledgeable and entertaining. A few things to note. It was a rather large group, which I personally would not do again (just my own preference), there is quite a bit of walking involved and at a fairly rapid pace, several times through very crowded areas. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Frank did a wonderful job at making sure to provide “comfort breaks” (some locations charge to use the restroom, your credit card will get you in if you don’t have change. Be sure to eat breakfast or carry snacks, lunch was later and you definitely work up an appetite! I truly appreciated that we were able to hitch a ride to Harrod’s at the end even though we were not going there to have tea. Have your camera ready! So much to see!

We were told to be at Victoria Coach Station at 7.30am but we need not have arrived until 8am as we were kept hanging around. When they called out the tours they did not mention ours and we would have missed it if we hadn't asked about it. What was more annoying was that we were dropped near St. Paul's for lunch, which is a catering wasteland and seems to offer nothing but tatty fast food cafés or astronomically priced restaurants, and few toilets. We were not told upon entering St Paul's that the whispering gallery was not included in the price and that tickets had to be purchased near the entrance, so we had to dash back to get them, and only had 30 mins to climb up to the upper galleries and look round the rest of the cathedral. Other than that, our guide Carol was very good and if it hadn't been bitterly cold and pouring with rain we would have thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
