Full description
The Royal Mews is an important branch of the Lord Chamberlain's Office and provides road transport for The Queen and members of the Royal Family by both horse-drawn carriage and motor car. It is also one of the finest working stables still in existence, responsible for the training of the Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays, the horses that pull the royal carriages. Among the historic coaches and carriages on display is the spectacular new Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which conveyed Her Majesty The Queen on the State Opening of Parliament on 4 June 2014. What's more, cast your eye over the luxurious Australian State Coach, with central heating and electric windows, which carried The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace after the Royal Wedding in 2011. The most dazzling of all is the Gold State Coach, which has been used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1821.  Among the vehicles on display, you can also find the Irish State Coach, purchased by Queen Victoria in 1852. Queen Victoria, King George VI and Her Majesty The Queen have all travelled to the State Opening of Parliament in this carriage.  During your visit to the Royal Mews, relish the opportunity to see some of The Queen’s horses that draw the coaches and carriages housed in the Mews. Visitors to the Royal Mews can also see some of the fine livery worn by The Queen’s coachmen. Apart from a few small details, it remains much the same as it was in Victorian times.  Remarkably, some of the tailors used for production of liveries today are the same companies employed during the reign of George III in the 18th century.

It was a really nice experience seeing all of the different transportation options used for the royals. The only negative is that since it’s the summer season the horses do go on holiday as one of the employees mentioned so might not see that many out and about like others. Besides that it was very clean, organized, and positive experience for my guest and myself.

A simple decor in these buildings which houses the most beautiful carriages still in use today. Impressive with wealth, finesse and beauty, class and luxury. And imagine that these are the same carriages that we sometimes see live on TV during major royal events... Wow! In addition, the audioguides are perfect with details and explanations in impeccable French.

What a gem, even for a Londoner

Really enjoyed taking my mum around the mews. Ticket office gent was lovely & helpful, the coaches were amazing, wish there had been a few more horses! The headset guides were short & sweet and for any age. A perfect precursor for the state rooms in the afternoon & at a great price as far as London attractions go. Would absolutely recommend.
