Bayeux: American D-Day Sites in Normandy Tour

1. Bayeux: American D-Day Sites in Normandy Tour

Meet your guide at Place de Québec and then begin your D-Day exploration adventure, retracing history as you uncover the day of June 6, 1944. The first stop of the tour is Omaha beach, where the deadliest landings of the day took place. From your guide, learn about the landings here and the soldiers who risked their lives. After Omaha, visit Utah beach, the second location where American troops landed on D-Day. Next, visit the US military cemetery and for the chance to pay respect and honor the soldiers of World War ll.  The tour continues to Pointe du Hoc next, a breathtaking cliff offering lunar landscapes and a magnificent viewpoint over the English Channel.  The site was built as a key point of the Atlantic Wall by the Germans because it was the highest point between the Omaha and Utah beaches and provided a great observation spot to notice any arrivals from the sea. Your D-Day sightseeing tour of Normandy ends with a visit to the village of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, the heart of the jump zone for the 82nd Airborne U.S. forces.  Listen to stories of how paratroopers rained on the village, and how one of them famously got caught in the tower of the church. With options for both half- and full-day tours, tailor your experience to your meet interest and schedule.

From Bayeux: Full-Day Mont Saint-Michel Tour

2. From Bayeux: Full-Day Mont Saint-Michel Tour

The Mont Saint Michel is an island off the coast of Normandy in the English Channel, and sees some of the biggest tides in Europe. The first church was built on the mount in 709 at the request of Archange Michael. The construction of the Mont Saint-Michel Abbey as we know it today was finished in the 13th and 14th centuries. Those hundreds of years of architectural prowesses have left us with a magnificent monument, now referred as the “Wonder of the Western World” and deemed a UNESCO world heritage site. Travel with a friendly driver and professional English-speaking guide from Bayeux to the Mont Saint Michel, which you will access via shuttle across the bridge in accordance with local requirements. Head to the very top of the mount and enter the abbey. The history of its construction will be explained in detail, while you marvel at stunning views of the surrounding bay. After visiting the abbey, explore the town at your own pace and pick up some souvenirs for friends and family. Your guide will suggest some great restaurants for lunch, suitable for all budgets. At the end of the tour, your chauffeur will take you back to your original meeting point in Bayeux.

What people are saying about Lower Normandy

This was a great tour. Our tour guide, Nad, was absolutely fantastic. We were picked up in a very comfortable van and were on our way. There was a break half way to our first destination where we were able to grab a coffee and something to eat. Our guide spoke English very fluently, and was easy to understand. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate, but was also able to add a bit of levity to what was a very emotional tour. I would highly recommend this tour, and kudos to Nad for helping to make our experience memorable.

It is a fast paced day but the guide was excellent in answering all our questions about D-day. I thought the day was an excellent tool for people who had limited time but wanted to key all the key American D-day operations. Forrest-California

Great day spent with a very patient and knowledgeable guide. Would recommend to any Canadian visiting Normandy to use Blue Fox through Get Your Guide.
