Full description

Tour the 100 square mile island of Martha's Vineyard and hear the charming history of its 6 towns from a local guide. As you drive across the picturesque island, admire curiosities like America's oldest carousel and the cliffs of Aquinnah.

Start in Oak Bluffs, known for its distinctive Victorian architecture with 300 colorful cottages designed to look like gingerbread houses. Turn a corner and see "The Flying Horse Carousel," America’s oldest carousel, operating since 1876.

Continue to Edgartown, with its quaint harbor complete with an 80-year-old lighthouse. A former hub for the whaling industry, admire the stately Greek revival mansions built by ship captains.

Travel along the idyllic countryside and small fishing villages before stopping for some clam chowder or lobster bisque in Menemsha. Next, arrive at the technicolor cliffs of Aquinnah before swinging by the bridge made famous in the movie Jaws.

I was really interested in getting an overview of the whole island. That’s what we got and our pleasant guide, RichM gave us insights which we never would have known had he not given so much effort to his presentation. I was mainly interested in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown and both of these towns were covered in detail. Thank you, RichM ‼️

J.P. was very good but I wish we had more notice before coming up to something. As an example, I just read Mobie Dick and he said his home was coming up in a few minutes. Well, we were on top of it and turning to the left when he announced it so I missed getting a photo. Even though he is not Jaws fan, many of us are and would've been nice to have more location shoots pointed out as well as more of the history of the island.

Pro’s we got to see 6 townships and learn some history of the vineyard. Con there was not enough time for photo opportunity because the van ride was much too fast! Although we did get to stop at 2 different stops for a brief time I would have loved to have had more photo opportunities. Also we had not eaten that morning and had brought snacks and were informed while getting aboard all that was allowed was water!
