Sit right back and enjoy the most unique tour on Martha's Vineyard. Hop on an exciting fun-filled bus and hear about the fascinating history of the area narrated by 3rd and 7th-generation islanders.

Start at the amazing town of Oak Bluffs (once known as Cottage City) where you will learn about the Methodist Campgrounds and their history of bringing tourism to MV.

Next, travel through Vineyard Haven (also known as Tisbury), the oldest port of 200 years, and hear about the hardships of living on an island devastated by fire in 1888 and ransacked by General Grey in 1778.

See the beautiful vistas of rolling hills and ancient stone walls as you make your way to the western side. Learn about the af/am heritage and how the island became a stop on the underground railroad.

Hear about the indigenous peoples of Martha's Vineyard and how Thomas Mayhew converted the Native Americans to Christianity.

After this, the south shore and two sounds blanket the island and have a gorgeous chain of islands called the Elizabeth Islands that have an amazing history of their own. Watch a screen that shows what certain sites looked like in the 1800s to get a better view of how the area has evolved.

Don't forget the movie JAWS, there will be many sites to see where all the scenes from the movie were filmed. End the tour with a gift bag including maps, guides, coupons, and handmade trinkets. There are plenty of opportunities for photos and much more.

We chose this trip as opposed to other similar trips because of several extras that were offered. The 2 most notable were that 1) there would be snacks and beverages and 2) each passenger would receive a gift bag as a souvenir of he trip. Now I've traveled enough to know not to expect everything to go as planned or offered, and we were told that the reason there were no snacks was that there had been a problem w/ ants recently. Small bottles of water were handed out, but I found out later that my friend had asked for them. But no mention was ever made of the gift bags, and as we were both somewhat tired after the long trip, we didn't think to ask about them at the end of the tour. We shouldn't have had to anyway, as they were supposed to be part of the trip. As we had to leave a day earlier than planned, it would have been nice to have a small momento of the tour. The guide was knowledgeable, and seemed to know many people where we stopped, as he is native to the island. Sad.

Our guide was knowledgeable and the tour was good. However, the two stops are very short. First stop was 20 min- so we ordered food immediately when we got off the bus, but it was not ready when the bus was going to leave. I’m sure the guide knows how long the food takes- as there are only two food places to order from. The second stop was 25 min- so you could pick seeing the cliffs OR see the lighthouse- but not both. Also felt very rushed. We were offered water but the snacks that were in the back were never offered to us. Lastly, our party of three was split up- so one person had to sit in the front, the remaining two in the back. For a bus that holds 16-18 people and all the seats are sold, it would have been very nice for the guide to try to keep the parties of people together. This tour would be excellent t if they would extend the tour to 4 hours instead of 3.5- giving. Few more min and the first stop and a few more at the second. Not unreasonable to expect more time.

I had a very nice tour with Devan, our guide. He is from Martha's Vineyard and that He told a lot of wonderful stories about the Island and many of the off-beaten track sights and places that one wouldn't normally visit or learn about. Wish we could have stayed longer at the Aquinnah Cliffs that would have given us a chance to visit the Gay Head Light House. The tourist van was comfortable and whimsical. The only thing missing was the "swag bag" that was supposed to be part of the tour. It wasn't mentioned my our guide and nothing was given, so I wasn't sure if it was still part of the tour (although it was advertised there would be a swag bag). It is a nice tour. I would recommend to others who are new to the island and want to get an overall flavor of Martha's Vineyard.
