Full description
Visit the landmarks of Memphis and be fascinated as the city comes to life through stories and explanations. Your guide will help you discover the top spots including Peabody Hotel, the Memphis Pyramid, and Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was murdered. Begin your day with a hotel pickup from downtown Memphis. Be seated in a mini coach-bus to meet your guide. Begin the tour passing by the statues of B.B. King and Elvis Presley and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Hotel, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Stop at A. Schwab for your local buys, an institution that sells all things Memphis—from regional arts and crafts to dry goods, magic potions, candies, books, magazines, and more. Pass by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Continue to the Memphis Pyramid, which is now a Bass Pro Shops “megastore” that resembles an Egyptian pyramid and is filled with shopping, a hotel, restaurants, a bowling alley, and an archery range. From there, stop at the Peabody Memphis, a landmark 13-story downtown hotel, famous for having Ducks march every day on a red carpet throughout the reception. Finally, visit Beale Street, voted as the most iconic street in America by USA Today. See the nearly 2 miles of blues clubs and restaurants that make it one of the top tourist attractions in Memphis. Then, take a drive through Victorian Village, a historic neighborhood with homes that were built in the 1800s and alongside cotton row. Discover why this fiber is so important in Memphis' history. If you wish, upgrade your tour to include a cruise along the Mississippi River aboard a paddlewheel boat. Listen to interesting anecdotes from your captain about Memphis and its history. You may also add a tour to Sun Studios, the birthplace of Rock N' Roll, where Elvis recorded his first song.

It is obvious the love and pride Sam (our guide) has for his city of Memphis… the tour was so excellent with Sams personal stories of the people, places and events to make Memphis such a great city, (including Elvis, Danny Thomas and St Jude, it’s sports teams and wonderfully preserved history through architecture) (and including its sad history of Dr. Martin Luther King’s last moments at the Lorraine Hotel). Memphis indeed became a living beautiful city for us through Sam’s stories. We would highly recommend this tour, and please be sure to take the Sun Studio tour too! Thank you Sam!

Michelle was phenomenal, very entertaining from start to stop. Really knowledgeable and helpful to boot. The booking was slightly confusing: I expected an e-mail from the tour operator (as described on the app booking page) but didn't receive one and checked the app to be sure it was all ok. Luckily I stepped outside our hotel (whose address I had listed as our pick up point on the booking) and Michelle was outside for another customer's pickup, or we would've missed the tour as I hadn't confirmed to the tour operator that we would be attending. I had no idea this was needed and there was nothing on the app or my e-mails to say this.

Guide Michelle was very accommodating yet on top of her game. She drove and dropped all the info in a very interesting and relatable way. However, make sure you listen closely as she has a strong southern accent (which made the tour much more authentic though) I did the whole deal: City tour Sun Records River Boat I wasn't picked up as I stayed a bit outside Memphis. Pickup at Memphis Tourist Center worked very well, the staff is very helpful there and well aware of the tour. They even have free parking. The city tour was very interesting, we got to see all the aspects of memphis (besides Graceland which is outside) and even had a decent stop at the Peabody Hotel to see the Duck Walk with enough time to enjoy it. We had some time to explore Beale Street, even more if you didn't book the Sun Records Tour. Sun Records is definitely worth seeing and the tour is great. There is a bit of a mark-up if you decide to go with this tour but all the additional organization & seamless
