Full description
A perfect trip for wine lovers, don't miss this day trip through the region that gave us Port wine. Leave Porto and head for your first stop in your Douro Valley tour, the town of Amarante. With its traditional streets and buildings made from local granite, here you can explore unique sites and noteworthy monuments, such as the Convent and Church of São Gonçalo, and a beautiful and imposing bridge. If you prefer, you can also visit the municipal Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum. Continue your trip through the city of Régua on your way to Pinhao, with a stop at a viewing point in Mesão Frio. In Régua, admire the beautiful stained glass windows of Casa do Douro - these windows illustrate the history of how barrels of wine were first transported in Rabelo boats down the Douro River. In Pinhão, you'll see the city's famous train station, built in 1879, as well as the Douro Museum where you'll become familiar with the whole history of Port wine. Pinhão is a land of rivers, valleys, vineyards and houses climbing up the slopes, making this one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.  You will walk along the river, passing through the train station with its typical tiles and then head to a farm for a Port wine tasting - the perfect way to finish off this Port adventure.

We had a very nice trip. Ana was a great tour guide who was also able to tell us a lot about Portugal. It is very impressive how the vineyards characterize this landscape. We were also able to spontaneously take a 1-hour river trip. We can highly recommend this excursion.

Very nice trip that is worth the detour. The valley is sublime. We enjoyed our driver, Sergio, who was very friendly and shared his Portuguese culture with us. VERY hearty lunch, which allowed us to taste several typical dishes and of course several types of Porto. The day remains a bit expensive for a family. The visit to the cellar was quite short, we preferred the one made in Vila Nova de Gaia (at A. Pinto Ramos) which was more detailed and fun. To do if you have already planned 3 days in Porto and Gaia.

A Perfect Day

We have really enjoyed a trip, our driver and guide all-in-one, he pick us up on time, the car was confortable for four of us. We have got everything what was described in the itinerary, we could spend as much time as we wanted on all spots which meant that we arrived back to Porto a little bit later as expected, but we didn´t mind - the sunset in Porto in June is about 9 p.m. We were thinking of a Douro trip by train&boat, but at the end we have decided for a private tour by car - it might be nice on boat, but you will miss beautiful miradores over the valley... Finally, Porto wine is perfect, we have ordered several bottles from the winery we have visited, awaiting a shipping in a few weeks :)
