Livorno Shore Excursion to Portovenere & Cinque Terre

6. Livorno Shore Excursion to Portovenere & Cinque Terre

Meet your private driver beside your ship at 8:00 AM for the 1.5-hour drive to the delightful fishing village of Portovenere, with its tall and colorful waterfront houses. Enjoy memorable sea views from the promontory where the Church of San Pietro stands. Its Gothic Genovese style dates back to 1256-1277. The church was built on the remains of an early Christian church and Byzantine abbey with parts of a heathen temple from the Roman age. At the foot of the promontory, there is a small grotto named after Lord Byron who took refuge here. From Portovenere, you'll begin your adventure through the five lands of the Cinque Terre, a landscape so unique that in 1998 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A great way to discover this area is from the sea. You'll have the option of departing from the harbor to enjoy a ferry ride (additional cost) to Vernazza, a great stop for lunch at a restaurant set on the cliffs, looking out across the bay (lunch at own expense). The ferry journey will take you past Riomaggiore and Manarola with great photo opportunities from the sea.  Meet up with your driver and visit either Corniglia set up on the hill or enjoy a stroll around Riomaggiore or Manarola. You could continue on to the larger and busier town of Monterosso, but please note it is not possible to stop at all the villages in one day and for this tour, it is best to keep the day as flexible as possible and see where your journey will take you. At some places, you may wish to consider using the train and if the weather and sea conditions are good, the local ferry will be recommended. Wherever your journey takes you, you will return with wonderful memories to your ship in the port of Livorno at approximately 5:00 PM.

Laurence and Daniel took very good care of us. Both were very knowledgeable about Cinque Terre but just as important they were fun and attentive hosts. If one of the reasons you are going is to photograph the cities, you need to realize you are facing the rising sun on the way up the coast and going back may be better for taking pictures. You stop in a small city called Porte Venere for an hour…just after having a variety of bruschetta and drinks. If you want more to eat, head left to “restaurant row”. Otherwise, head right, up the main road where there are more shops and ends up at the fort on the coast. Lots of good photo opportunities there! We got gelato before getting back on board. On the cruise back to Monterosso we had beautiful fruit served to us…plus drinks. We then stopped in a small cove for a swim. The water was gorgeous! The rest of the way home was so much fun! All the passengers and crew felt Iike friends. We drank and laughed together for the remainder of the time.

we were a bit apprehensive about the bus trip, but it was not so bad. Arriving at the first stop you really have something of where I ended up until you visit the first town. After a short visit (enjoy the view and take lots of beautiful pictures, don't waste your time eating/drinking) after a short train journey to the next stop where you have enough time to visit the area and eat. The return journey by boat is a pleasant way to return to the boarding point. super beautiful places seen

Excellent tour for anyone who only has one day to visit the Cinque Terre. Well organized, the meeting point is easy to find, courteous staff with a trilingual Italian, French and English guide. The stops at the 3 stops pass quickly because the restaurants fill up and many close around 4:00 p.m. It is therefore sometimes difficult to find a restaurant without a queue and with fast service. I highly recommend this tour!

Good organisation. Departure on time. Friendly crew. Clean boat. Translation into several languages including French I recommend

Guide Josefin was excellent, very clear, a lot of information, humerous, enthusiastic
