Full description

See freshly formed black lava formations up close on a 4-hour tour to Fagradalsfjall Volcano, which erupted in 2021. Walk in the geologically active region and marvel at the remnants of the first eruption of the peninsula of Reykjanes for 800 years. Admire the recent lava flow, which has reached lower ground after slowly spreading across hills and valleys, making it easily accessible by foot. You will likely be able to see the fresh lava, which is still warm in places even though it has solidified. Take a moment to marvel at the youngest rock formations you'll ever see, as it's just emerged from the Earth's mantle.

This hike ended up being closer to 5 hours. We made several stops including by a lake and a geothermal field with a number of vents and hot pools (not for swimming). The longest continuous hike was probably about an hour or less when we went to the lava fields from last year's eruption. Very unique experience and will be recommending to friends.

the guide hleaf (?) was very nice and funny and told many interesting things and background stories. definitely a plus! walk was nice, because of heavy snowing in the last days it took up to 30 minutes one way, in a winter wonderland. at the end we could see some dark lava rocks, covered in snow, and a bit of steam.

Nice relaxing trip! Although the lava wasn’t flowing anymore, it was still exciting to see the gas/steam coming out of earth and feel the heat. We were also able to see a spring on our way back to the city. There was not too much walking. So it should be a good choice for the very end of the whole journey. Professional driver and guide as well ;)
