Full description

Take a tour with a certified guide of the Vatnajökull Glacier — the largest in Europe. Head with your group to the ice fall, a scenic and exhilarating walk that requires crampons and a safety briefing. Along the way enjoy artful ice sculptures formed by nature.

Your certified guide will take you on a scenic walk, during which you can appreciate the dramatic landscape carved by the glacier. Once at the tongue of the glacier, put crampons on, have a safety briefing, and then make your way to the real adventure. Head up towards the incredible ice fall (from which Falljokull derives its name), where you will soon be exploring a dramatic terrain, full of frozen ice formations and ice sculptures.

Get plenty of photo opportunities while witnessing the rugged and majestic ice fall. Your guide will explain how the glacier was formed and how it keeps changing its shape day after day.

Definitely go for the 5 hour hike. It's not that difficult and you get deep into some areas of the glacier where you feel surrounded by ice which is a very cool experience. We brought food but didn't eat anything. A quick snack should be enough for those who need it. Our guide, Jan, was great as well!

Eric was a great guide and we absolutely loved our experience on the glacier. Everything was explained very well, we felt safe all the time and it was the perfect mix of safety and adventure. The hike is not that hard but you just have to focus on where to walk and work well with your crampons. Groups are max 12 people and you spend around 3h on ice in total. Would definitely recommend!

The hike was absolutely awesome. Our guide was experienced and professional. He led us well up the icefall in a manner that was efficient and fun. The hike was challenging but we stopped at appropriate times and the guide made sure we were all comfortable before moving forward. I would highly recommend this hike. The glacier is getting smaller by the year and this hike may eventually not be possible.
