Full description

Step aboard the Puffin Express for a charming bird-watching adventure in Reykjavik. Enjoy a 100% guarantee of puffin sightings, and learn about these and other local birds from an expert guide.

Head out from the Old Harbour of Reykjavik to the surrounding Faxaflói Bay and onto two nearby islands, Lundey and Akurey, covered in small hills and slopes and known for their colorful birdlife. Once arriving at the islands, observe the native birds and picturesque surroundings with the boat's engine turned off. Enjoy seeing puffins as well as other birds, such as northern fulmars, gulls, Arctic terns, and black guillemots. All of this takes place on an old wooden boat, Skúlaskeið, which is fondly referred to as "Old Skuli." It is spacious enough to hold 33 passengers but not too big, in order to ensure that your tour is personal and comfortable.

We had a knowledgeable guide who helped us appreciate the lives that these cute birds live. Our captain brought us close to the islands, close enough that some puffins flew overhead. These birds are small--slightly larger than pigeons, so you need binoculars to see and a good lens to capture them. This was a great value--and one of the few places to see these lovely birds that may be heading toward extinction. Tourists in Iceland should unite in never ordering them on a menu!

I came here to see the puffins and found this fantastic app, was able to book a spot on the boat the very next day and had an unforgettable experience. The crew of the boat was very knowledgeable and friendly and the puffins came out to meet us. The biggest seagull was there too and the little puffins were still in the nest.

Easy to get to. Just enough time.

This tour brings you to two small islands off the harbor of Reykjavik. The tour guide was great and informative and you were able to hear her clearly. She told good facts that were interesting. The boat was small and was rocky, but not scary or unsafe. Wear a hat or scarf if you prefer to reduce the wind hitting you. There is an indoor space too if you do not want to be exposed to the weather. Seeing the puffins was awesome! We seen a bunch on the island, flying, and in the water. You do not get overly close to the island. But within a good enough distance to where you can still see them with the naked eye. However, if you want a more up close and personal tour, this wouldn't be the one. This one is quick, easy, simple, and gives you just enough time and viewpoints to get pictures, experience the puffins, and then come back. Awesome tour!
