The description was outdated. The actual hime was around 4km due to the volcanic eruption, the route has changed. This was disappointing for us as we were looking forward to a longer, more challenging hike. The new route doesn’t allow for good views of the volcano either. Blue Lagoon was amazing

A great day exploring the Reykanes Peninsula. During the trip, we visited spring sites, the bridge across 2 tectonic plates and the coastline. The main part was the hike to last year’s volcanic site. The hike up to the viewing area will need a moderate level of fitness but it is worth the climb. You can see the crater and the full lava field. The view to the coast from the top was beautiful (we were lucky with a beautiful sunny day). Afterwards, we visited Grindavik for a lovely fish and chip lunch. After a few days of earthquakes, a new eruption was due. It started during our trip a few miles away from the volcanic site and we could see the rising smoke which was exciting. We ended the day with a stop at the Blue Lagoon - well needed after approx 6 miles walking. Loved it.
