From Avignon: Morning Wine Tour to Châteauneuf du Pape

1. From Avignon: Morning Wine Tour to Châteauneuf du Pape

This tour takes you to the vineyards of the Rhone Valley, the second largest wine-growing region in France. Vines have been cultivated here since the days of the Romans and the centuries-old tradition is ripe for exploring. Tucked between the Alps to the east and the Rhone River to the west, it is an area rich with natural and manmade wonders. Departing from Avignon, you will drive through the lush landscape on your way to the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The name is familiar across the globe for its exquisite wines, but you will also have time to explore the village and see the ruins of the castle where former Popes built their summer residence after they relocated the papacy to Avignon in the 14th-Century. The tour visits 2 wineries involved in the production of red, white and rosé wines. Go to the cellars and learn everything you could possibly think to ask, about the "terroir,“ grape varieties, vinification and ageing process. You will also get a lesson in how to taste wine using your eyes, nose and finally taste. As the French say, "A votre sante!" Cheers!

Would really recommend this trip - definitely for beginners. We learnt lots but this was our first wine tasting experience. The first winery had a museum as well... we weren't sure at first but turned out to be really interesting. Wine was great! The second winery went into more detail about the region - and how to properly taste the wines. The tour stopped at a couple of good places for photos. And our guide was excellent - friendly and had so much information to share with us.

Jerome was an excellent guide and the wineries were wonderful! Notes: - Some more explanations along the drive would be nice, otherwise it’s quiet in the car for most of it, but not a big issue - Lot of standing in the first winery (an hour or so), keep in mind if you’re older. - two wineries with three wines each - wish that we stopped by one winery that looked like a castle for a photo op, but we just drove slowly by

Great little excursion to get a feel for wine production in the area. Nice private wine tastings and tutorial. It was good not to have to book the wine tasting sessions privately. We saw several people who just showed up at the vineyards asking to taste the wine but all of the sommeliers were busy with preexisting groups. Everything ran quite smoothly for our little group—it was great!

Awesome tour

This tour is a great way to see a little bit further afield whilst staying in Avignon. Our guide was fantastic- friendly, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The staff at the vineyard we visited were also great, and gave us an informative tour where they explained how the wine was made. I highly recommend this tour!

An excellent guide . He told us everything. Nice to come and see the vineyards and to hear what they have to tell
