Full description
Leave the bustling city center of Rome behind and enjoy a bike ride through the Roman countryside, which inspired 19th-century travelers such as Byron, Goethe, and Stendhal. Ride on history's first highway: the Appian Way, also called Regina Viarum, which still retains most of its original paving. Constructed in the 4th century BC, it was used as the main route to transport military supplies and for important families to build their tombs and mausoleums. On this ride, you will go past ancient Roman ruins, statues, an imperial palace, Christian catacombs, and pagan mausoleums. The tour will stop in front of the mains tombs and catacombs (Saint Callixtus and Saint Sebastian) to explain how this road was conceived as a place of union between political, military, and religious power. You will also discover the wonderful Aqueducts park, the only park in the world that preserves 2 Roman aqueducts that are still in excellent condition. In the second half of the tour, go back through the Caffarella park, which contains several archaeological sites and a working farm and has considerable ecological value.

Very nice visit to the surroundings of Rome. With our friendly and brilliant guide Caterina and after only a few minutes of cycling, we found ourselves in the middle of the Roman countryside with the Appian Way, the aqueducts and other vestiges. One of the best activities of my stay in Rome.

Enchanting trip through the Felix Romana countryside, on the ancient Appia, incredible landscapes and monuments, unique in the world as evidence of a great past culture. Very well prepared and very nice Mario, our guide, who accompanied us with care and in complete safety, through an ancient and fascinating world just outside Rome, delighting us with exhaustive explanations and anecdotes along the way, entertaining us with a very pleasant and never boring conversation . Also very kind Mrs. Caterina, who provided us with pedal assisted bicycles, very professional in solving any type of problem, as well as very nice and friendly.

Merci Katerina!
