Helpful to know: (1) Like other reviews have mentioned, we booked a 10 person tour and ended up with 16 people on our tour. (2) There are free water fountains inside of Palantine Hill, so if you bring or buy a water bottle, just refill it there rather than pay 2 euros from the guys hawking water next to the Colosseum. (3) Booking a tour was useful in that we didn’t have to wait in a huge line for entry tickets and got some interesting history too. (4) The tour ends in Palantine Hill, so you’re able to explore the grounds after the tour at your leisure. Our guide had printed drawings of the Colosseum and area at various times in history, which was cool to see. He wasn’t super enthusiastic or compelling as a speaker/guide. I’m happy we went on this tour, but I’d set your expectations at a level where you won’t be disappointed when this company overbooks your tour and your guide sort of rushes through areas of the Colosseum you might want to spend more time taking in, etc. B+

What a fantastic tour! Maria is an entertaining host with excellent local knowledge, and really brought the whole place to life with her vivid descriptions and photos of how it would have looked in ancient times. It was a scorching hot day and she carried a little water spray bottle to spray on our faces, which was a lovely touch. The only issue was that the headsets were very crackly and not particularly audible unless you were standing within a couple of meters of the host. We stayed by her for most of the tour but I know many of the others in the tour were not able to hear much, which was such a shame. I hope the company can fix this to improve the experience for everyone.

Marcus was our guide for the 3 hour tour. Very informative and passionate about what he does. This tour is well worth it if you love to hear the information about way back when. If you have kids or even adults with you that that have a low attention span they will probably lose interest as quickly as the temperature rises.
