Full description

After having your bicycle allocated and being introduced to your group, your guide will start by leading you through the Circus Maximus. This is a great opportunity to test your bike and make sure you are comfortable for the rest of the tour. The first leg of the tour is along the Appian Way, an ancient Roman road running through the countryside past Roman tombs and villas. Peddle to the old city walls and the gate of St. Sebastian. It is said that St. Peter was to have passed through here on his way out of Rome. Following a short stretch along cobbled paving stones and past the obscured ruins of an old Roman villa, reach the first real breath of fresh air in the sanctuary of the Catacombs of St. Callisto.

Admire the Catacombs of St. Callisto from the outside, and listen as your guide describes the importance of this ancient Christian site. Cycling a bit further, arrive at the Tomb of Cecilia Metella and the first stretch of original stone paving used to build the Appian Way.

Continue over this 2,300-year-old road to get the most out of your Appian Way Bike Tour experience. There are trails and paths running alongside this bumpy road allowing the group to bike easily for most of the way until reaching the Park of the Aqueducts. At the Park of the Aqueducts, get up close to the ruins of Rome's most impressive aqueduct, the Aqueduct Claudius. It towers overhead and offers an amazing backdrop throughout this second leg of the tour as you make your way to Cafarella Valley. Visit a natural spring for a scenic break in Cafarella Valley. The area is home to many Roman ruins such as Ninfeo Egeria. At the natural spring, take time to use the toilet and try some of the mineral water. You'll also have the chance to sample local cheese and wines while there.

Really great morning Our guide was perfect, competent, cultured, and above all very kind and attentive In addition to the historical sites, he had surprises in store for us: tasting of Loquat fruit, strawberries at the natural spring of Egeria, etc... equipment adapted to the skills of each I absolutely recommend this activity

Amazing! Glenn, was such a great guide. My girlfriend was a bit nervous about riding in Rome but he made her feel fine with it. Amazing views and the ride itself was brilliant. Glenn really made the whole day though with how kind, funny and caring he was with us both. We was the only English speaking people but he would always make sure to tell us what everything around us was. Great trip and would 100% recommend anyone to do it, even if your not a massive fan of biking; the bikes were great and could set the bike as if your hardly peddling! Would definitely want to do it again when we come back to Rome!

Definitely not for beginner bikers! You will bike in traffic and there are some hairpin turns right adjacent to traffic. The ride itself is easy due to the e-bike, you will not get exhausted, but the traffic and terrain were very difficult. Overall I am very glad I did this excursion and highly highly recommend it, but only if you are proficient on a bike! The tour guide was great and we had plenty of stops for shade, water, and history lessons.
