Full description

Discover the highlights of Roman history with a visit to the Colosseum with skip-the-line entrance and access through the Gladiator's Gate. Continue to the Roman Forum and then head to Palatine Hill.

The Colosseum is easily the most well-known of all Rome’s ancient architectural marvels. Its massive, towering walls still stand largely intact after 19 centuries, and its symmetrically arranged archways are a constant reminder of the orderly nature of Roman society.

Benefit from fast-track entry and learn fascinating stories from your expert local guide. Enter the Colosseum through its secret back door, called the “Gate of Death” because it was used to take out of the arena the ones who failed in battle. From there, go straight onto a wooden reconstruction of the original arena floor.

From the center of the Colosseum, enjoy fantastic views over the tiered seating of the monument. There will be plenty of space to move around and take some insta-worthy pictures. Discover the best of the Eternal City and continue your adventure to the Roman Forum, a place that was once the political heart of ancient Rome. Visit the ruins of the Temple of Caesar, the Senate, and many other important buildings to fully understand the daily life of the Roman citizen.

You will end this fascinating tour with spectacular views from the top of Palatine Hill.

We booked this private experience for our family of 3 (1 teenage son) in order to get the most out of our first visit to Rome and especially the Colosseum. This enabled us to have the tour pace and content tailored to us specifically, and one-on-one time for asking questions and learning more about the history of the area. The tour enabled us to bypass most of the queues, meaning more time to spend in the Colosseum and Forum. This was ideal as introduction to this area, and gave us ideas for where to spend our time on a future visit. The time of our tour was excellent - 4:15 in October - this allowed us to see the magnificence of the architecture with the shadows and golden light of the setting sun. Our guide Julia was so lovely - friendly, relaxed, thoughtful, and very knowledgable. It felt like talking to a friend rather than a tour guide! She answered all our questions with interesting stories and background, but also gave us suggestions and tips for any further exploration.

Our guide Georgio, was superb. Felt like a Roman history professor was guiding us back in time to explore and explain Rome. He was attentive and answered all our questions, even those not related to the tour itself. Whilst it wasn’t inexpensive (2 person private tour), it was definitely worth our € and we wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of both the Colosseum and the Forum. The tour had a nice pace to it. Not rushed but not lingering on any one spot. He answered all of our questions and went into detail on many interesting facts. If you are going to visit these sites you need to have a guide with you to get the most out of the experience. I would definitely recommend this tour.
