Full description

Find the concealed side of the ancient city of Rome on a guided tour of the Catacombs. Descend into the Navona Underground and explore the former circus in all its glory. Look at unpublished photographs of the Stadium of Domitan and examine discovered artifacts from the days of the Roman empire.

Begin in Venice Square, next to Town hall and step into a VIP minibus ready to transport you to the Catacombs. Learn of this second century response to the land shortage for burial sites. Snake through the extensive network of tunnels, once a place of worship for the first Christians in Rome.

Enter Navona Underground by descending 5 meters below street level to explore it in all of its dimensions. Receive details about the travertine blocks, brickwork, and marble columns of the main entrances, away from the towering monuments of the above ground city. Travel back in time and look at a selection of unpublished photos, 3D reconstructions, videos, and informative panels that tell the story of the Stadium of Domitian. Learn about the development of the site into its current piazza, as well as the evolution of ancient Roman sports. We had promised ourselves more of it. The tour was a bit short and you don't see much of the catacombs, unfortunately.

Our guide spoke well enough and loudly enough for us to hear him even from the back of the group. It was truly mindblowing how many people were entombed there!
