You can’t come to Rome and not see St Peters and the Dome but be prepared for crowds. We went in April which is lower season and it’s still very busy, particularly up to the dome (which if your not mobile and somewhat claustrophobic can be an issue BTW). We did the 9am tour and the queuing to get into St Peters was manageable. A guide is definitely the best way to do this if you can afford it, Richie had huge amounts of information on the artefacts, the buildings and the people. Also helped to get the queues moving faster!

Rich from Pittsburgh is beyond amazing. His knowledge of the system to get in while taking advantage of that down time to provide information about the Basilica was excellent. He took advantage of every opportunity to enlighten us on the history and architecture and went out of his way to ensure the group got all the knowledge he could share. I can't say enough positive things about him and this tour.

This tour was absolutely amazing! The process was excellent, meeting point easy to find and our tour guide Senait had a lot of knowledge to add to our visit. Harry was our point of contact and was very helpful throughout. We loved it that much we have booked their Colosseum tour for tomorrow
