Full description
Discover the glorious villas of Tivoli that date back to the times of the Romans and the Renaissance on a half-day tour from Rome. Following an optional pickup from your hotel in the capital, transfer by comfortable transport to the little town of Tivoli just a few kilometers from the city center. Discover a splendid natural environment between the “Eternal City” and the high hills to the east of Rome. Stop at the remarkable architectural complex of the Villa Adriana, built in the 2nd century AD by the Emperor Hadrian. Marvel at its different architectural styles, with influences from Egypt, Rome, and Athens. Learn how it was designed as an "ideal city," and explore some of the symbols of ancient times. Then, go to the Renaissance-style Villa d’Este and explore its palatial setting, surrounded by a spectacular terraced garden. Enjoy the beauty of its cascades, water tanks, and fountains. Admire a masterpiece of Italian landscape gardening, and its numerous nymphs, grottoes and fountains that were inspired by the Gardens of Babylon.

The trip was great. Our guide Fabio informed us very nicely and comprehensively about everything. He spoke perfect German and French. The ride in the minibus was very good, you can only save yourself the hotel pick-up, since we were picked up 45 minutes beforehand and then had to wait over 30 minutes at the meeting point. The two villas are well worth seeing, and our guide Fabio informed us very well with his extensive knowledge and accompanied us very nicely throughout the day.

Fabio was excellent guide. They pick you from your hotel with minivans and they assembly the group at piazza della repubblica. The only negative is that the excursion ends there and you have to go on your own back to your hotel. My hotel was just 500m away. The weather was perfect otherwise i guess it becomes muddy at Hadrian's villa.

Excellent but frustrating and guide

Quite honestly we loved it, the beauty of the site, the pick-up at the lhotzl in the morning, the top visits, however 3 negative things! We had to have a French guide but this guide being sick we had to share the visit with a Spanish group so the guide had to do all the visits in 2 languages, a huge waste of time and especially since she spoke Spanish very well but in French we didn't understand the very strong accent and turns of phrase that meant nothing! The second thing the visit to the villa d'este is much too hasty we should leave us completely free from the beginning because the villa itself is pretty but what is interesting are the gardens so just a little more free time this would be great! 3 rd thing os support return to the hotel! They take us in the morning but they don't bring us back! Pity
