Full description

Skip the ticket lines to the main monuments of the Vatican City on this guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica.

Your local guide will take you to the most interesting galleries within the museums – the Rotunda, Gallery of Tapestries and Gallery of Maps. Each of these rooms contains ornate ceilings with the walls decorated with ancient statues, frescoes, and tapestries.

Of course, the greatest gem of the Vatican collection is not a painting on any wall, but an entire ceiling and wall completely frescoed by the greatest genius of the Renaissance period – Michelangelo Buonarotti.

From the Creation of Adam to the Last Judgement, Michelangelo dedicated some of his greatest years to the Sistine Chapel, working day and night – even sleeping in the chapel – to satisfy the popes of Rome.

He also expressed his frustration with his employers with hidden meanings in his work. Today these have been uncovered and understood. Listen as your guide lets you in on Michelangelo’s private jokes.

Finish your tour at the Basilica of St. Peter, the world's most impressive work of Renaissance architecture and the largest cathedral in the world. Admire the famous Pietà by Michelangelo and the elaborate St. Peter's Baldachin by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Holy Moly! What a tour! This was such a great way to see the Vatican - Elaine was the most amazing guide, so knowledgable and friendly, knew where to go and when, how to avoid the queues, provided the best resources. It was such an informative and enjoyable way to spend the day - could not recommend highly enough!

The guide was outstanding and provided so much information that made the tour extremely interesting, but not overwhelming. Her knowledge was unbelievable, and she brought it to life with a unique sense of humor and vast depth of insight to everything we saw and the background stories behind the sites, structures, and people. I would highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic tour of the Vatican with our amazing tour guide named Mario. We booked the early morning 7.15 tour.. to get to the Vatican City was 10euro by taxi from Trevi. Walked through a little pebble street to a coffee shop where we were giving complimentary croissants and coffee and giving time to enjoy this before making our way to St Peters Basillica- we skipped all the ques and crowds and made our way inside. Stunning! Mario was a wealth of knowledge and taught us all about the history of the Vatican City. He ensured the tour wasn’t boring and kept the group entertained throughout. We went to the Vatican museums and ended at the Sistine chapel, again skipping the long ques. Breathtaking throughout. A must do when visiting Rome. You will be very lucky to get Mario as your host. He has experience and charm, highly recommend.
