    Since it's re-opening, the Colosseum’s underground area has become the sight to see in Rome. This domain of gladiators and animals is a part of your 3.5-hour VIP tour that’s truly away from the tourist crowds. During the special access sections of the tour, you’ll be accompanied by a guard who will open gates to grant you and a maximum of 23 other guests (2 groups are combined when visiting these sections) exclusive entrance access to the underground and arena floor. With your expert guide you’ll also have a full tour of the regular access areas of the Colosseum, including the first and second levels. Then it’s on to the Roman Forum where you’ll hear about the political history of ancient Rome. Julius Caesar once led his triumphant armies on parade here, and it was also here that successive emperors plotted the growth of Rome.  For those with an interest in history, the Palatine Hill is an unexpected highlight. Vastly underrated, the hill is a much quieter place, where your guide will point out the ruins of the world’s first palaces. With small groups having a maximum of 12 participants, and archaeologists as tour guides, your tour is sure to be an a fascinating opportunity to explore Roman history.

    Meet opposite the entrance to Oppio Caffè (via delle Terme di Tito, 72) by the gate to the park. The park entrance is located on the corner of Via di Terme di Tito and Via Nicola Salvi. If you’re arriving by metro, please note that there are 2 entrances/exits for the metro. The gate to the park is located on the street above the metro station. You can take the stairs up either inside the metro station or outside. Once you arrive to street level, face the Colosseum and then walk 150 meters to your left to find the Oppio Caffè and the gate to the park at the corner.

    We always knew the colessum tour was going to be impressive but our tour guide made the history come to life for us. In particular in the Roman Forum and Palantine hill where we didn’t know as much about. She was fun, a brilliant storyteller, and the 3 and a half hours honestly flew by. An honestly unforgettable tour.

    Davide was our tour guide. And he was fantastic! Got our earphones which helps you hear everything he says. He knows just about everything and brings a unique experience from what i could tell versus other guides. In my opinion didn't put a foot wrong. VIP access to underground is a must as it gets you to where no one else is (only 25 max allowed at any time) and into restricted areas of the arena and stand. Palatine Hill and the Forum were just mind blowing on scale and ruins. If you have mobility issues, you should be fine with all levels of the colosseum but going through Palatine Hill and Forum, we had a few drop out of the group as its a lot of up and downs. For the money, I most certainly would recommend as it sells out way in advance (including standard entrance).

    Davide is an excellent guide, couldn’t have done any better. The tour was incredibly informative, no question was too much for Davide, his English is excellent, and he also kindly gave us information and recommendations beyond this tour. Group size of about 22 was fine too. Would recommend and happily book again, worth the price. Bring a water bottle, you can refill along the way, and there are a couple of toilet breaks. Bring a little snack if you need it, the tour is a good 3.5 hours long (at the end of the tour there’s a cafe in the Roman Forum - note, with your ticket you can stay in the Forum after the tour as well).
