Full description

Embark on a half-day scenic tour through the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt. See the town of Hallstatt on a guided tour and explore at your own pace after. Admire the Mullbach waterfall and the Bone House.

Start the trip from Salzburg with a drive through the famous Salzkammergut en route to Hallstatt, known as the Pearl of the Salzkammergut. The route will take you through a number of charming villages, as you listen to an introduction to Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut. If you wish to do the Hallstatt Skywalk, the guide will collect the money for the ticket on the bus.  On arrival in Hallstatt, you might begin your visit with a mountain train ride up to the entrance of the world’s oldest salt mines (though the tour does not visit the mine itself), where you can admire the views down onto Hallstatt.  In Hallstatt you will have 2.5 hours to take in the sights. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling onto the mountainside. Pass by the Mullbach waterfall and visit the local museum. A must-see attraction is the Bone House behind the Catholic church, which will give you an interesting view into local family life (admission not included). You’ll then begin the return journey via Abtenau and Russbach to Gosau, where you’ll see the Gosau Lake and admire the views of the Dachtsein mountains.

Amazing trip! The guide was great, told so much about Austria and what to do in Hallstatt. Hallstatt itself was gorgeous, a beautiful little town which is 100% worth seeing. Before the trip I was worried that 2.5 hours wouldn’t be enough but was able to visit the church, walk around the village, take the ferry to the train station and back and take the funicular to the skywalk. I was there in the odd season though so it was a lot quieter. Bit a fantastic day, one I will remember for a long time, not a bad thing to say about the tour.

It was a great bud ride to Halstatt with lots of information along the way and picturesque views. We had a great time in the village as soon as we separated from the group and did our own thing. While great on the way to Halstatt our tour guide seemed to tire out and “Sun Down” as we say in America and lose focus, energy and coherence. But a great value in the off or shoulder season.

We ended up taking this tour basically because we couldn’t figure out the confusing train situation from Salzberg. It was a large double Dekker bus, and the driver did a great job. We were thankful we didn’t have to navigate this on our own. We were surprised by the number of tourists in the town, and it was hard to get a place to eat. The biggest disappointment about the trip was the skywalk portion that we chose to take. The views were amazing, but It took a lot of time, and after the fact we would’ve preferred to have more time in town.
